You should start light and work your way up with the kettlebells. Kettlebell work is surprisingly devastating, but your capacity will grow over time.
Where you start depends on: your pre-existing fitness, body weight, core strength, flexibility, etc....
During covid, kettlebell work was my primary form of exercise. I may have been in the best shape of my life. I just did kettlebell squats and swings, and pushed myself each time. It's really easy to set a routine that allows you to push yourself, as you can just add on a swing to each workout as you gain endurance/strength.

I've got a 45lb bell for KB swings and a pair of 31lb bells for dual bell exercises like push presses. The others I have are a 22lb and an 18lb, but I'll probably buy more over time or use others at the gym.
I started with the 31lb bell and recently got the bigger one. It's hard work! It engages most of your core and it's great for functional fitness, but I'd also recommend taking a class to understand the right way to use them. You can hurt yourself if you don't do it right.

I got a 30lb to start, but I'm only supplementing my other activities by doing halos and swings, not full kettle bell circuits. I think it's a good weight for me, but based on the pricing and circumstances, I wonder if I should have spent a bit more and gotten an adjustable kettle bell for around $110-180 that does around 10-40 lbs. That way I could adjust up and down as needed and others could borrow/try the bell as well. The 30 lb was forty something, so adding a bell or two might be pretty close in price and take up more space.
Amazon has one that's 20 lbs, and you can add 20 pounds in 5 pound weights. Canadian tire has a Bowflex one for $180 and I think the price can drop due to shenanigans for the loyalty program etc. I also saw some workout websites with some steep "Valentines deals", so it seems like a good time to start poking around, but you have to be careful about factoring shipping for some of those sites.
IDK about the right away to choose a kettle bell initially, but I assume doing 5 halos in one direction and then 5 in the opposite direction to test the weight is a reasonable approach without being all weird in a store or improperly testing the weight for workouts?

5-35lb kettlebell for this guy that seems to cover everything from injury recovery to warmups to serious swinging around stuff. Keep in mind you can hold a 35 in one hand either nothing or another weight in the other so easy to stack.
KB's most definitely IMO give you the best time-value and functional mobility/strength. But yeah, take a class and/or watch some videos online and let your body adapt before moving to higher weights and faster speeds. Also easy enough to do at home or the gym.

Someone in my training group asked my coach that question and this is what he said:
These types of kettlebells are totally fine for your training. You talked about the advantages already.
This disadvantages are:
If it’s not a good one the screw that holds the weight plates might loosen easy and needs to be tightened during your training which is especially important for kettlebell sport: adding weights will change the center of mass and that leads to a different feeling and balance of the kettlebell. That’s a downside if you practice and plan to compete in the 10 minute snatch for example

Agreed. Adjustable makes sense for beginners, but there's value in the cast bells that adjustable can't address when you get more advanced.
I just constantly do calculations and I realized at approximately $1.50 per pound for kettle bells, the adjustable one starts to make more sense for the beginners after the second or third adjustment in weight/sharing/profile and based on what I've seen on FB marketplace etc., it'd also be easier to sell and recoup value via an adjustable kettle than a random assortment of entry level kettle bells.
I needed a little retail therapy and a kettle bell to focus on health seemed to make sense. I have a mace bell as well which is kinda fun to supplement activity with at times but the only space I have that makes sense for that is outdoors, not indoors.

I would not get the adjustable kettlebells. A kettlebell is something you really want to be able to huck around. You don't want any kind of motion within the kettlebell. You also want a smooth round and solid surface to put your hands around. This isn't a dumbbell. Most of the exercises you'll be doing with it will be pretty dynamic, with lots of swinging, throwing, gripping, etc...you need something really solid.
If cost is a major issue, there are a bunch of kettlebells floating around in the used market that people bought during covid.

Umm... I dunno if there are a lot of different listings in BC, but when I checked FB marketplace and Kijiji before my purchase, the prices of used Kettlebells aren't much better than $1.25-2.00 per pound, used. Those are barely better than the type of prices I saw on Amazon (delivered) and at Winners which is honestly kinda ridiculous. Lots of other listings that are highly misleading.
Northern fitness website has Orion Vinyl kettlebells for just shy of 50% off which is like $1.10 per pound, and then depending on the amount of weights you get, add shipping estimate of $30-50 approximately $0.50 ish per pound. Might as well buy new and/or see if there's something local that is competitive in price but I didn't see anything at local stores or used shops that stuck out.

1/2 pood is a decent size for your first bell. It's about 8kg or 16lbs. I probably use my 12kg one the most out of all of them, very versatile. You'll quickly want to get different sizes for exercises you like the most. I need to start making pairs out of my faves.

Fata i basically work 12 hours get up at 3:30 on good days start responding to evening reports and email, schedule rigs until i go in at 6:30. Meetings and yadda. Im an introvert so I play the role of how i should be allday long. Come home exhausted. Sleep for an hour then phone calls again. Rinse and repeat. I don't want to be like this barely there for my family. Kinda wish i died on that table. I also have lower energy now, not sure if its depression or surger orold age kicking in. Puton a brave face and keep trucking i guess. Way better than where iwas so i dont want to let them down. I can let myself down all day but others, no way that will happen. F'in idiot.

Wishing you all the best. Hopefully you find someone decent to talk to. I would imagine that’s a big part of the battle.

There is a Hannibal Lecter joke in here somewhere, but Imma let it slide...this time, because as I recall it didn't go so well for most of his patients.
Great cook though. Or so I've been told.

I think I'd prefer that to the lady who started into the teas i needed to take five mins in and the rest of the time. Ypu mean wolfsbane isn't going to help. She even had a link with her name on the link to get 'credits' if i bought the drops ant tincturs. I can't even spell it. I even bought some like an idiot. She was a one and done with the pyramid scam nonsense.
