Sweden vs. Italy starting kind of how you'd expect

lol 1st shot in on Sweden, Italy survived an initial onslaught

I think it's makeup.

It takes a certain type of goalie who can stay engaged when there's not consistently a lot of work.

At 4 Nations he proved his makeup is kind of perfect for this. He's a fiery guy (probably to a fault) but it might be just the right temperament to flourish behind a super team like Canada.

Plus, much like the Kipper years, the traditional stats I don't think represent the quality of the player and that's probably reflected in his selection in the first place.

I think the goaltending concerns are overblown, personally. He will do fine.

Man, the men's game is so much better than the women's. Smoother and more competitive. Italy of all teams is a testament to the competition.

As someone who is half Italian, I think I can speak on behalf of most, if not all Italians when I ask;

How in the hell are we holding our own against Sweden?

Even if they lose this game 8-2, staying competitive against a contender in Sweden is huge for the fans!

Talent disparity aside, they went over the Italian coach's international accolades with Finland its pretty impressive. Counts for something here.

I'm not Italian at all, but I will cheer for team Italy hockey team every time in these olympics against ANYONE.

I just love cheering on the home team at their home olympics.

Because we now live in a weird universe where Canada might be better than Italy at soccer, and Italy is holding their own against Sweden at hockey.
