I don't think that would temper the outrage.

Dude has to be regretting that extension at this point. There’s no way he actually wants to stay there. If they continue to crash and burn for the rest of the season, I predict he’ll request a trade this summer.

The beige tin man said call him a robot!
If he hadn’t signed the extension, there’s no way he would think that this is the team to win with.

Absolutely insufferable.

He better not no show like the 4nations and the Stanley Cup Finals. If not for Matthews ####ting the bed in the 4nations final McDavid would've been an afterthought in the whole thing.

To be fair, he led all forwards in points and was second in the tournament in goals.
As we've seen with Crosby, in these short tournaments its about who shows up in the big moments and he did in the 4 Nations. Hope he does it again.
Absolutely hate the guy but it's certainly nice not having to hold my breath whenever he has the puck like I do when he's playing for the Oilers.

He tied with Crosby and was somehow still -1. Crosby was +2, Mackinnon had 4 goals and was +4. Mcdavid is an amazing offensive talent but he's not a good all around hockey player at all.
Anyone who says they'd take Mcdavid over a player like McKinnon isn't paying attention.

I will always cheer for Canada no matter what. But I'd be lying if I said there isn't a tiny silver lining in that if Canada doesn't win, I will take great solace in the fact that McDavid will be absolutely miserable returning to Edmonton. That will compound the struggles for the Oilers, causing McDavid to become even more miserable. Lose a Stanley Cup, lose another Stanley Cup, lose Olympic Gold and then miss the playoffs in back-to-back-to-back years? I'm here for the meltdown.

Best case scenario would be Canada wins gold but he's out with some ailment and contributed nothing to the win (so he flies home feeling unfulfilled because it never has been about the team but individual glory for him)

Yeah if JB doesn't make those massive OT saves everyone would have been talking about McDavid being dissapointing in that tournament.
If people want to call him the best player in the game (cough SN) the bar is sky high. Guy needs to dominate out there.

He did absolutely nothing outside of a couple individual rushes until that play.
I'd wager that Celebrini makes more of a positive impact.

Here’s trending towards maximum no goodness.
An oilers fan said to me (and I know that I’m not alone) that it was great that we get to both cheer for McDavid together for a couple of weeks.
I just said that I was cheering for Canada and my expectations were that all players would show up and play as a team and that I wouldn’t be cheering specifically for or against any players. This didn’t go over well.
I gave the example of the women’s team; I recognize a number of the players (I.e. pissy’s ex) but I’m not cheering for them individually; I am cheering for them as a team.
What exactly is the fascination with supporting one specific player? It’s no good.

I'm actually cheering against him. Can't stand him as a player and have no interest in seeing his success.

I get the negative commentary towards McDavid. He's an oiler, and its a disgusting organization. But Canada always comes first. We needed that win in the 4 nations badly. He delivered the goal, (in otherwise ####ty game ) and that's what counts. I can go back to disliking him in a couple weeks.

It is tricky to cheer for Team Canada but against McDavid, but many of us on CP have mastered it.

It's not that difficult. I wish Team Canada success, but whenever McDavid touches the puck, I want to see him get crushed to the boards...

Celebrini is simply a far more interesting focal point on team Canada. Especially for people who don't catch a lot of San Jose games.
There's nothing interesting about that sour puss loser. Maybe Draisaitl and him can iron lotus each other when they meet.
