They were both dumb and should sleep in the bed they made.

Draisaitl should've known most of that contract would be after their contention window.

It's gonna be bleak there as soon as McDavid is out. Enjoy it bud!

Maybe they should try playing McDrai 60 minutes every second game.

Pissy’s comments COULD be interpreted as the coaches rely only on 4-5 guys night after night … what about all the other players?

This, of course, ignores that there is a total of 180 “forward minutes” (yes, PPs can increase this a bit) in a game and 3 forwards hog around 70 of those. He’s blaming that on the Knob. As if, Knob doesn’t pull them off…

In any event, the other 8 get to share all of the 110 remaining, almost none of which is PP time either.

Really? Seems rather self-serving to me.

I'd trade them Kadri, for their next 3 first round pics. 27/28/29. They'll be JUICY.

That 2028 edmonton 1st should be a target.

I dont think any vet we could trade them would change their fortunes.

They're too steeped in the mindset of winning now that they probably aren't protective about a pick thats a few years out.

For sure, but give my Hyman's dad and I'm still division 5 beer league at best. Even if my dad bought the beer league.

It may be weird, but the fact he wrote a kids book always made me assume he was less scummy than the rest.

Maybe on the ice, but off the ice you dad could buy an OHL team and then make you the GM:

https://chl.ca/ohl-bulldogs/hockey-ops/

Or buy a tier 2 Jr A team and make you the director of player personnel or skill development coach:

Draisaitl also had Dallas Eakins and Todd Nelson during his half season with the team in his rookie year.

I'm not going to lie, if I was coach of the Oilers, I would play McDavid and Draisaitl as much as possible and play the rest of the forwards as little as possible too. As my kid would say, their line-up consists mostly of toot morsels.

the first 3 are all in the top 20 for coaching wins of all time- so they have blown through some veterans of the biz

What writer formats their 'articles' like this?

It's like reading an HF post.

And his 'insights' are no better than most long time HF posters. Dude's a glorified fan just keyboarding his feelings in unruly formats for the EJ for a salary.

On a separate note, going from powerhouse to rock bottom in a week is quite a feat!

Nothing has changed.

If anything, Pissy was right about something, they're a worse team than they used to be...but they're still doing the exact same thing over and over again. And while the McTwins are putting up big point totals and whatnot...they are fighting against the immutable laws of ageing and diminishing returns.

This isn't basketball. You need more than 2 or 3 dudes if you want to seriously have a chance at winning.

Yup, I'm pretty sure that Knobby isn't coaching the following

"Now Connor and Leon, when the opponent has the puck on a line rush, I want you to slowly and lazily drift back while preserving your energy"

Or

"Now Connor and Leon, when our defensemen are getting outnumbered on the puck, we want you to abandon your back check and fly out of the zone"

Or

"Now Bouch, when your in a 1 on 1 what we want you do do see, if freeze completely and get a wild deer in the headlights look as your opponent swoops around you for a shot, its called 4th dimensional chess baby"

Or

"Nurse, we want you to abandon the front of the net when there's a guy in a slot waiting on a pass, because you see Connor and Leon will have already flown the zone, and we'll take em by surprise"

Or

"Tristen, we want you to kick rebounds right to the oppositions sticks, you need a work out you fat F . . ."

Yeah, I'm sure Knobby is coaching that.

I was told yesterday that it’s knobby house elf’s fault for not benching or somehow reducing the draft lottery kings ice time.

Can you imagine the scenario?

“Uhhhh…Captain oh my Captain and herr chancellor Leon, I’m going to need you guys to skip a shift.”

“Screw that. Leon, let’s dig in and get out there right now and not come off until we feel like it”.

Underrated part of the Oilers misery, Walman is having a horrible year and his 7x7 contract only starts next year.

The Walman and Frederic contract situations are delicious.

Stan Bowman is a bozo.

Didn't Todd Nelson also have MacTavish standing on the bench with him to "help", almost like he didn't know what he was doing.

This is the thing. Coaching is important.

Players in any sport can be all over the place, their jobs are to play the game, but sometimes that focus is so lasered in that they dont see the big picture. Thats where the coach comes in.

The Coach is supposed to be Macro-focused. The players play, but they are focused on that and, understandably can get lost in it. The Coach is supposed to be the guy looking at the whole thing and making required changes.

The Oilers are an anomaly.

Its a bunch of garbage and 2 miracle-workers. Thats not a lot for any coach to work with.

What do you do? Well...you put the miracle-workers on the ice and pray for a miracle.

Funny thing about miracles though? They are inconsistent and eventually run out.
