In my opinion the bigger issue is that it's impossible to get fired at the city, and an even bigger problem an any unionized role in any sector. If we're paying good money, we should be able to attract and retain good people - which is a positive for everyone. Protecting under performers is the bigger rot from my perspective. This isn't unique to the City, but harder to achieve as there is no competition. Companies that do this will fail, but a City can't (and shouldn't). It's a hard problem to solve.
The same philosophy that says teachers are overpaid but Elon totally earns what he gets.

In his social media post, Johnston said with 17,000 employees and taxes on the rise, transparency in public spending is critical.

“This isn’t about attacking or undermining our dedicated city workers,” he wrote.

“Instead, it focuses scrutiny on high-level salaries, which represent the largest portion of the budget and deserve careful oversight. There’s never a bad time to enhance government accountability.”
I think the fact Johnston gets paid what he does is call for scrutiny given he's so incredibly dimwitted.

I watched this portion of the meeting. Landon very clearly unprepared for this. Looked pretty bad on him in my opinion. Didn't speak with Admin or anyone. He also got a little pissy at Farkas during it, more of that to come I am sure. Also got schooled by the City clerk too. Back to the drawing board for him on this.

I also watch where he introduced the letter regarding the City supporting the closing of the Sheldon Shumar safe infection site. He made a clerical error (to be fair most of council is new) which didn't help himself. Letter was vague and wasn't shared with everyone until they showed up day. Also back to the drawing board for him.

As predicted Landon showing how unqualified he is for this position. Fumbling his first three items at council. Reminder the first thing he introduced was defeated 15-0, he voted against his own item.

I also expect that Landon will continue to represent ward 14 with half his ass but blame everyone else when he can't even do his job properly.

Maybe this is proof that Landon's own salary should be cut 50%.

The guy obviously doesn't deserve it lol.

He sounds like Sean Chu, without the sexual assault baggage. How does he feel about bike lanes?

There was also an issue when councillors were being assigned to committees - https://livewirecalgary.com/2025/11/...lgary-housing/

More than $861 million in federal funding at risk with rezoning repeal: City report

https://livewirecalgary.com/2026/02/...l-city-report/

The presentation deck shows that up to $861.2 million in federal funding over 10 years through three programs could be at risk should the citywide rezoning bylaw be tossed. It’s unknown how it might impact Calgary’s ability to tap into a $20 billion Canada Public Transit Fund, to which the City of Calgary hasn’t yet applied.

“A full repeal of the RHB may result in The City being deemed to be non-compliant with its HAF Contribution Agreement (HAF Agreement) with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). This would put a portion or all of the HAF funding at risk,” read the admin cover report.
