That team could very well be out of a playoff spot a few days after the Olympic break ends.
After the Olympics, they have a three-game road trip through California (including a back-to-back with the Ducks and Kings). Oddly enough, so do the Flames.

Those are going to be some important games.

If the Alberta teams go 0-for-6, that won’t hurt my feelings a bit.

Ched guys calling Lomberg “Lombard” is hilarious. They should probably check the spelling of his name on the Stanley Cup

Try and be understanding of Edmonton fans, reading and writing are a challenge for them.

Be fair. That name wasn't on the Stanley Cup the last time it was seen in Edmonton, 35 years ago.

Do you really expect people in Edmonton to read anything else?

Years ago, for laughs, I made up a couple of fake sportswriters to ‘cover’ a fantasy league. There was Perry Flatbush, who thought his team could do no wrong and was destined to be an eternal dynasty, and Shalmaneser Grundy, who thought his team was the worst thing in history and could never do anything right.

Seems to me that mediocre sports reporters tend to gravitate to one of those two extremes as a way of trying to stand out (since the quality of their reporting does not stand out at all). Edmonton media are full of Perry Flatbushes. The Leafs have them too, but there are so many media guys there, and only a limited market for homers; so they have a whole herd of Shalmaneser Grundys trying to out-Grundy each other.

This is fun to observe from a distance, but I'd hate to rely on any of those ginks for information.

Lost in all of this, Ryan McLeod has become a lethal two-way threat in Buffalo. I'm sure the Oilers could use a guy like that in their lineup... to think of all the people who said the Oilers heavily won that deal. Kevyn Adams deserves a ton of credit for that larceny.

My hat is definitely off to the Oilers' management for finding all that young talent like McLeod, Broberg, Holloway, and Skinner.

Actually, my hat is off because I lost it. Kind of like the Oilers, really.

Can you imagine currently paying $9.825MM for goaltending (including Campbell’s buyout) and not having a single one that wouldn’t clear waivers…….

Once, of course. Reading the names of the ’89 Flames was cool, but seeing Peter Pocklington’s father’s name X’d out was priceless.

Unlike some Edmontonians, I have even read other things since then. Imagine that!

*I'm looking at NHL.com, which may be official, but is still pretty much garbage.
Anaheim actually has 2 games in hand.

Coming out of the break it would be wonderful for Seattle, Anaheim, and LA go on a bit of a run. Wouldn't hurt for Utah to keep going to secure that first WC spot. Would love the scenario at the end of the year for the Oilers to be on the outside looking in and if they do get in, get Colorado as their prize for making it to the playoffs.

Holy crap. I had no idea. 11 goals, 29 assists, 40 points, + 19 in 56 games for the Sabres this season.

The Oilers traded him for Matt Savoie who has managed 9 goals, 9 assists, 18 points, -2 in 58 games (granted, Savoie is a couple of years younger but the Oilers are supposed to be going for it this year).
