Flames might have to wait on the Rangers’ duo of trade targets (Trocheck and Panarin) before we see Kadri or Coleman potentially moved. Luckily, our guys have term. Trocheck has a better cap hit than Kadri and 3 years younger. Panarin > Coleman, but also cheaper and more enticing if we retain on BC.

No, I'm making my own point. You came in and tried to tell me that my point wasn't worth making because I should have been making your point instead. Go and make your own damn point if it matters that much to you.
I was addressing what D as in David was saying about the monetary value of picks to a franchise. If you want to talk about something completely different, that's fine, but don't get on my case for addressing the issue in question.

Carolina is noted to be on his NMC. Minnesota… well the city sucks right now. So it’s Detroit. Montreal was a great option for us.

I feel like the evidence doesn't really support this assertion, though. Just because Montreal 'checked in' on Naz doesn't mean that there was anything close to a realistic trade offer for him.
Sure, yes, the likelihood is that we would've shut them down a few months ago when Naz was flirting with a PPG on the season and was still evidently happy here. But at the same time, I'd bet even if we went down the road of trade talks with MTL, their offer wouldn't be what we'd need to actually pull the trigger on a deal.
The Habs sent only a 2nd rounder out for Danault in December, so I have my doubts that they would have been willing to part with a 1st and a prospect, and potentially more, for Kadri at the time. Which is what we would require to make the deal worthwhile for us at the time.

I don't think the Flames will be able to trade both Coleman and Kadri this season. To me they both need retention to return decent value and the Flames only have one more retention slot open until July 1st.
Would love to be wrong on this

I remember when McDavid was about to be drafted, and the word was that he was essentially worth around 1 billion dollars to whatever club ended up drafting him. Although I am sure that Katz made a lot of money on the real estate deals in the Crystal Meth...err.. I mean Ice District, it wouldn't surprise me at all if McDavid brought 1 billion to the Oilers with a combination of increased revenue, and the increased valuation of the club itself.
It starts to really make financial sense to tank and take a hit on a regular season or two on drafts that are likely to contain a 'star'. It isn't just franchise altering in the record books, but it is franchise altering in the ledgers too.
Hopefully Calgary hits on a 'star' player. I would imagine the valuation of Calgary's team would increase dramatically with the new building, a star selling a lot more merch, having more on-ice success, and creating more fans in general. I would assume that in the last 5-8 years, the Flames have made less fans (or even experienced a net loss!) as compared to many other teams. Edmonton has probably greatly expanded their fan base and viewership, and I bet McDavid jerseys have sold many units even well outside of Edmonton.

I completely agree.
Look at what Ohtani did for the Dodgers.
I believe I read/heard somewhere that the organization was to recoup his salary within the first year.
Wait til McDavid leaves Edmonton in a couple of years. Will that decrease the valuation substantially...I would think so.

TLDR - MTL pivoted and went back to known commodity in Dannault which has reduced their need at center ice. Combined with how well the team has been playing, there's no urgency on Kadri any longer.
I still feel like Dallas could make a big splash here, and they apparently want to do "something".
Kadri + Rantanen reunited.
Robertson not in their long term plans apparently.

Dallas is going to be hard pressed to extend Robertson at the needed $12M of cap space so he makes for a perfect draft day trade target for the Stars who could potentially land some major draft capital sending Robertson to a spot he was willing to sign for 8 years. They would obviously be keeping him for the remainder of the season I would think

Why wouldn't Robertson be in your team's long term plan? That still bothers the hell out of me, it makes basically no sense. The guy is a major play driver. Plus player his whole career too.

His wheels are pretty poor and an 8 year deal will likely age poorly. Dallas not trying to get stuck with a "post apex" player.

Friedman has said that he thinks Dallas is still focused on signing Robertson which is why they would be out on Panarin. Not saying Royle is wrong, just noting that there seems to be a lot of uncertainty about what they are really going to do.
And if they aren't going to re-sign Robertson, then I would think they would go after Panarin more than Kadri.

The thing about Jason Robertson, is he is 26, and most forwards prime in terms of raw production is over by 27. I would love for the Flames to get him on a 5 year deal, but wherever he does wind up will need to pay him for 8 and that shouldn't fit into the Flames long term plans.

He's their leading goal scorer and he's 26. They just signed Rantanen, also with not great wheels, and who is older, to a 12 mil a year contract.
I think this is a ridiculous position. A max 7 year contract only takes him to 33-34. He's got 2 contracts left in his career, no doubt. Maybe you limit his trade protection but trading a 40 goal 100 point forward because you're worried about post apex is absolutely dumb as nails.

They just signed an older player to a longer contract
