Nope, don't think so. 10 NHL games this season means it won't slide into next year, he's an RFA summer of 2028.

Yes but the poster that you replied to was talking about the summer of 2027. In the summer of 2027 right now the Flames have to drop about 15 million right now on 7 players. If they trade Kadri with no retention they have to drop 22 million on 8 players. Obviously would have to spend more if they trade other contracts and don’t take equal money back
Players they could sign that summer to burn some of that money (they have nobody that could eat money this offseason to re-sign of any import)
Hunter B
Kuznetsov
Klapka
Frost
Parekh is not on that list.
If they trade away vets they will have to go on a bit of a spending spree on UFAs

Lawrence is definitely struggling right now it the NCAA, but so did McKenna when he just got there, so it will be interesting to see how they all play out the season.

Bjorck is 5 10, 172lb, might still have another inch in him. High IQ player. He beat the all time U17 Swedish league scoring record as well. Still a lot left to play though so there will be risers and fallers as usual.

Calgary quiet right now.
Andersson was the one they had to get done they really felt.
The other guys they have time on now and Coleman has been hurt.
Golden Knights wanted Andersson badly and almost lost him to Boston.
Bruins had $63 million contract offer to Rasmus Andersson.
Calgary players were under the impression Andersson was going to take the Boston offer.
Doesn't think Calgary is in a rush to do anything else right now and also thinks they don't have anything that says they have to do something right now
Olympics break a factor.
One person told Friedman why trade for a guy before the Olympics only to pay him hundreds of thousands to get a tan on a beach

Flames moved their rental so can now hold out for the highest bidders on the guys with term. I hope they have a few more trades to be done before the deadline but I think most of the work that remains to be done will happen either on, or in the days leading into the trade deadline.

Yeah no hurry, get a bidding war going. But they should definitely still move a guy or two.

I wonder how many trades happen before the Olympic break. The trade freeze is coming up quick,
I guess this year we are sort of spoiled in having an extra trade deadline day! I doubt the Flames move anyone until after the Olympics, but I am curious to see what moves are made around the league.

I think it slows down. Teams still need to figure out if they are buying

What we may end up seeing is a bunch of trade announcements on the day after the break - perhaps teams line up trades but don't want to take on the cap hit until the break is over.

Flames not moving anyone now is in our favour, though not fun or flashy.
Creates more bidding wars, guys are going on break anyway and both guys we're likely looking to move aren't participating in olympics so they can rest up and get 100%.
It's going to pick up substantially right after the break, and I expect CGY to be right in the mix again.

The players the Flames still have left are definitely trade deadline moves. Teams will be more willing to cough up a price when there is that countdown and pieces are moving.

I expect it to pick up a little bit, simply because there is only a week and a half between the lifting of the Olympic freeze and trade deadline. Leaves what? 3 - 5 games max? I would think more teams will be throwing in the towel before the Olympics start (not every team, but a few more) and the trades will pick up a bit.
I do agree with Enoch below your post - probably a tonne on the day the Olympic freeze lifts, but I do think it is likely we will see some teams make some moves, but I agree that we are likely to see the bulk of them after the Olympics.
I am going to guess 7 trades this week alone, regardless of how big or minor they may be. Should be a fun week full of actual rumours!

Sharks are figuring out what to do with Ferraro. He was going to be dealt for sure but with the team being competitive for a playoff spot his interest in re-signing is there. They want an answer before the deadline. They are discussing potential re-signing terms.
San Jose still wants a RHD. They were interested in Andersson if he signed. They have spoken with 2-3 other teams about RHD. Asked about Whitecloud as per the request of other people on this board and was told "can't confirm at this time".

The other thing about Olympics is that at least some of these teams are going to lose a player to injury. Colorado has 6 forwards they are risking (5 important ones). One of those guys goes on LTIR and Kadri and/or Coleman are right there to be added. Dallas is similar.

What san Jose really needs is a reliable shut down guy on the right side. Not easy to find a player that is top 4 with that profile. If they cant find one, 100% they will fall back on an upgrade over denharnais to pair with mukamadullin or Dickenson.
I could see pachal head back to California as a cheap option to steady a rookie.

That's an aspect of the Olympic break I hadn't thought about. If the clock keeps ticking on the salary cap during the break, it accounts for about 10% of the season, which is not insignificant for a team trying to make room.

Have you heard anything about the likelihood of either flipping Whitecloud or if acquiring him has opened the door to possibly moving another right-shot D?
