I just finished Piranesi by Susanna Clarke .
Might be one of the most unique books I've ever read.
I think I really liked it despite having to work away at it, especially the first half.
I'm broke. I bought this. I'm more broke now. However, I'm rich because I'm reliving fond childhood memories. It came just before Christmas and I finally started to read it this weekend. There is 155 issues in the main series, plus a couple side series too. I had all but 2 issues from the first 65 issues and missed a few up to issue 78, so my collection was incomplete. I always wondered where the story went and now I finally get to find out!
I remembered this post as this is being shipped out.
Demon Haunted World should be a textbook for a class in school.
Currently I'm reading Dungeon Crawler Carl. My first LitRPG type book and it's pretty entertaining. Also can't help but feel like I'm being manipulated in the same way rewards in rpg games do with loot and leveling up, it appeals to the same part of the brain I guess.
This keeps popping up in my amazon feed.
Is it worth it???

Totally worth it. Been a while that I've read a series that did a good job of blending the day to day stuff that's going on with the series spanning plot. The slow escalation is great. It makes you interested in the characters.
It's made me more invested in a talking cat than I'd have expected.
It's not high literature, but it's great for what it is.

I read the first Dungeon Crawler Carl book after a friend told me to and a couple weeks later had read the first six books in the series. It has been a long time since I've so thoroughly enjoyed a book series. Trying to hold out on reading book number seven for a bit longer as the eighth one comes out in May
I also read 11/22/63 by Stephen King over Christmas and it is really good. I think about it nearly daily. The characters are so well written

I'm not familiar with the Gormenghast series so I'm not sure how it compares. I didn't find Piranesi to be feminine in any way. It's hard to explain, but to me the writing was almost like a series of reports.
Just finished reading Cameron Crowe’s memoir The Uncool, which was pretty great. It mostly covers his early days as a teenaged music journalist, and also delves into the writing and making of Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Almost Famous. He’s got some amazing stories about spending time with Bowie, Led Zeppelin, the Allman Brothers, Joni Mitchell, etc… Really good stuff.

Totally. It's a fun read. Best video game I have ever read ahaha. I am just about to wrap up book seven.
I have friends and family who aren't gamers and they have loved it. It's just fun silly nonsense and is highly entertaining. Would very much recommend the audiobook as the voices are *chefs kiss* it legit adds a lot to the experience.
I would love the team that makes the borderlands games to make a Dungeon Crawler Carl video games. They would go well together.

The voices are great, especially considering they're all done by one guy. I'm on book three and there are other voice actors for later books though. I can't wait to hear Patrick Warburton.
There should be a game. I would definitely play it.

I read Demon Haunted World in 2005. It changed my life. 20+ years on, its lessons are still with me. As a grade 6 teacher, it forms a meaningful part of my philosophy of education (e.g. a strong emphasis on critical thinking throughout the curriculum). I've read most of Carl Sagan's corpus; he is simply an incredible communicator of science and critical thought.
Of note, it's really neat to see a book I read so long ago pop up in the news in regards to Trump and the situation in the US, sad as it is. Carl Sagan wasn't right about everything, but he was right about a lot.
