Default Would a win in Montreal convince you?

If the stamps win tonight would it be enough to convince you that they can compete consistantly this season or should we just expect the win over a weak Montreal team.

I'd be impressed with a win, simply because there are so many injuries right now to the defensive line... We were vulnerable to the run even with everyone healthy. Now, missing two defensive linemen, this could get scary. Montreal has a dangerous runningback and a good o-line, but fortunately one of the least mobile QBs in the league. I'm hoping the secondary can step up and continue their strong play. On the other side, just keep the turnovers down, work Reynolds into the offense, and they should be fine. I can't help think that this is gonna be one of those ugly games where neither defense can make a stop and both teams score 40+ points.

A win tonght vs Montreal, a win next week vs. BC followed up by a split in the Edmonton home and home, and a win over the Riders the following week will do that for me. In other words if on Sept 16 they are 7-4 I will be convinced. However I have a feeling that 5-6 is the more likely outcome.

I really hate to say this but in some ways i think Burris is right about how we precieve him. Only a grey cup win would satisfy stamps fans at this point.

On the other hand I think there is nothing wrong with that, Burris is one of the highest paid QB's in the league and he has consistantly chocked in big games thoughout his intire careerer, so untile he proves he can do it under pressure i don't think i will be convinced.

Montreal is a tough place to win so any time a visiting team can walk into Molson Stadium and come away with a victory, it's a good effort. And Montreal has played better as of late - but I still think the Stamps win this one.

I'm not a Stamps fan by any stretch but I don't think too many fans of the Stamps or the CFL think that the Stamps can't compete consistently against the other teams in the league, in theory. They have all the talent to be able to get wins each time they play. That said, Burris over the course of his career has been terribly inconsistent - looks like the best QB in the league one week, a raw boneheaded rookie the next. And I'm not trying to pin all the of team's losses and wins on the QB but normally Burris' play is a huge factor in the Stamps (and the past, Riders) success. And because of his traditional inconsistency, I think you'll see the Stamps finish around or just above the .500 mark again (which isn't all that terrible in a very tough West division).

I'm not too concerned about the Stamps in the regular season...they have the talent to make it through to the playoffs, and should be able to do that unless there's an implosion unlike anything we've ever seen...for me, right now, it's waiting to see how they end the regular season (peaking too early? peaking at the right time? in a slump?) and how that carries forward to the playoffs. When 6 of 8 teams make the playoffs in the CFL, the regular season pretty much means sweet eff all.

On a side note, the Stamps are a pretty good Grey Cup bet right now at +750.

In an 8 team league it's pretty fair to expect a Grey Cup. It's been 2001 since we won one last and it's getting about time again. If Burris isn't good enough to take us there he should get the hell out of town and at least then we can start looking for someone who can. I don't know why he has a problem with those expectations. To whom much is given, much is asked.

Pretty much... odds are pretty good to win the Grey Cup in any given year, seeing as 75% of the 8 teams make the playoffs, unlike in the NHL where 53% of 30 teams do, or in NFL or MLB where the odds are less than 50% out of 30+ teams. All a team really has to do in order to win the Grey Cup is go on a 2-3 game win streak depending on whether they are first or not. Therefore, like you said, a team should reasonably expect one Grey Cup every 8 years or better. Burris is the highest paid player on the team and one of the highest paid QBs in the league. If he can't handle that pressure, then he shouldn't be here, period. A quality starting QB demanding the cash Burris doesn't show up sometimes and sure isn't prone to those kinds of brainfarts and meltdowns.

It's funny cause Burris is always saying that it is the nature of the businesss for the QB to get scrutinized but then he complains about how no one ever gives him and credit and always blames him for loses.
IMO burris needs to understand that he plays a game for a living and he is paid really well too do it so if me and my crapy low paying job want to critisize him them he ought to take it like the overpaid athlete he is.

Sorry I just got paid it it just isn't going to stretch far enough.

The only thing that would convince me is a quarterfinal win in the playoffs.

Hey to be fair to the Riders and Bombers part of their Grey Cup drought consisted of the CFL having 9 teams and up. Who could forget such classic teams as the "Sacromento Gold Miners" the "Las Vegas Posse", "Shreveport Pirates," the "Memphis Mad Dogs," the "Birmingham Bericuddas," the "San Antonio Texans," "Ottawa Rough Riders and Renegades" And of course the 1994 Grey Cup finalist and 1995 Grey Cup Champion Baltimore no names, I mean CFLers, uh Stallions.

You know what I found so funny about that? When people were flipping out about the possibility of having an American team win they Grey Cup, all I could think of was "How bush league does it look when our league champions don't even have a team name?"

That and two of the other teams in the league had the same name!

Right now they are NOT a very good football team...but have all the pieces to be so.

Im guessing they lose tonight but rebound at some point and win 3 or 4 straight.

Way too much talent for it not to come together at some point or another.

Well yeah, but that was nothing new at the time. My favourite part about the Baltimore "Stallions" was that they were originally trying to go by the Baltimore Colts as an homage to the NFL Colts when they were located in Baltimore. What, you guys didn't think the NFL would notice?

So Duval shanks it wide but puts it out of the endzone, yet still gets a "way to try hard, slugger" point. The rouge is stupidest rule in all of pro sports.
