He also played the entire WJC and was an impact player there. That excuse doesn't work.
Parekh just needs time to bring his defensive technique up to an acceptable level for the pros, that's all. I don't think it will take him very long, but he is absolutely not ready today.
I checked both threads and didn't see anybody say he wasn't AHL ready but might have missed it
I hear this often. Am I correct in assuming this would be because Edwards would not want it? Because I don’t see this team needing the $3.5 million of extra cap space for the next 3 years. Pretty sure they would need to retain just to reach the cap floor unless they get contracts back. If retaining maximized value and Conroy has the autonomy to retain in any contracts he wants to trade, why would the flames not do it with Kadri? I think full retention on Kadri would make him a very valuable trade piece while no retention would really limit his trade suitors.
If you're retaining $10.5M of real money then the return will have to be huge.
The most I'd expect them to retain in any scenario is $2M per season or $6M total.

I'll have to check the threads again later, but there was at least one comment to the effect that his defensive positioning and stick were way off and he needs to improve them both to play the pro game.
Fortunately, those are both things a guy can work on without sacrificing offence, and they're relatively easy to correct. Parekh has been praised for his good defensive stickwork in junior, so he certainly has the skills, just not the timing yet.
I think he may well be ready for a full-time NHL spot next year – the same age Makar was when he broke in. But I'm not surprised if he needs considerable work during the rest of this season to get there.

Really hoping we see Coleman traded for a 2026 1st+ and Whitecloud flipped for at least a 2026 2nd. That would give the Flames 7 picks in the first 3 rounds this year, with one of them hopefully a top 3.

Been painted into a corner 4 times now with Hanifin, Andersson, Tkachuk and Gaudreau.
Better to become a bit more ruthless and basically get the best offers from whomever on all the rest of the veteran players and cash out those assets. Take whatever Whitecloud type asset (cap dump) to make the dollars work and move on. Let all the young players who are hungry and want to make a name for themselves come in and make a show of it.
I'm tired of established guys basically screwing the team over. Andersson had the right to do what he did, but he wasn't up front saying he'd only sign in Vegas and I would be floored if he reached ufa.
Realistically, we should have traded him last year. Would have got the same package from Vegas as Hague wouldn't come here. At least we would have been worse in the standings from the get go and could have talking about the Kadri or Coleman trades right now instead of wasting all our time.

I would also like to keep Whitecloud if it means we can trade Weegar instead. We can easily get a similar package for Weegar if we trade him and honestly I'd prefer the cap flexibility.
Allow guys like Whitecloud, Bahl and Kuznetzov be the defensive anchors for the offensive defensemen to go off.

My philosophy has always been that you want one defensive anchor and one offensive D on each pairing if you have the players to do it with. Pair those three guys with Parekh, Brzustewicz, and maybe somebody like Mews, and that's a good balance in my eyes.

Sometimes too much respect for your employees isn't good for the company's best interest.
especially when the current makeup of the organization, those veteran players literally serve zero purpose for the future of the team.
None of the older guys are going to be relevant players here once the team is good again.
Cash them out for picks and prospects, accelerate the rebuild, sign a few free agents that can be the Flames version of what Toffoli is to the Sharks and hit the reset button.
The Flames can easily eat a bunch of expiring contracts for this year to stay above the floor and spend a bit extra to bring in some new faces.
Shake things up, get assets, let the young guys rip.

Exactly my thought. For this season, having say Kuznetzov and Pachal as the 3rd pairing is perfectly fine, but if you add a D-man in a hypothetical Weegar trade, go for it and plug them on whatever pairing makes sense.
Shake it up.

Don’t think Conroy will trade Weegar but I still think that the Sens make a lot of sense as a trading partner. Given they do not have a 2026 1st and the desperation they have to make the playoffs and how horrific their goaltending is I wonder if the following trade might be available

Amplifying on that a little further, the '89 Flames did exactly that. Ignoring which side they played:
MacInnis–Macoun
Suter–McCrimmon
Ramage–Nattress
With Murzyn as the 7th. They had an offensive threat and a shutdown guy on each pairing. Obviously in a cap system, you're not going to have a guy as good as Ramage on your third pairing, but that's the idea. (And when Suter busted his jaw that year, Ramage was able to move up to his spot and save the team's bacon.)

I know we are in a ‘rebuggle’ right now but wonder if we went back to Boston with Weegar instead of Andersson for the same offer and if Conroy would do it.
How would you all feel about:
To Boston:
Weegar
To Calgary
1st Round pick
Mason Lohrei
Matthew Poitras

I think the Canucks will rebound somewhat. Their roster is not a last-place roster. They are just playing like crap right now. Of course they are not going to rebound and make the playoffs (or come close), but I doubt they finish last this season (or even bottom 3).
They need to get rid of Kane, get rid of Foote who doesn't seem to have any pulse at all on that team, and they will probably improve somewhat. They aren't a well built team and have glaring holes, but as much as I dislike the Canucks, I have to really squint hard to see them finishing last.
I wonder if they do simply ride Foote all the way to the end of the season. If so, then maybe.... It was seen as a hire to try and make Hughes happy IIRC, and it hasn't panned-out at all. I am surprised that they haven't fired him yet.
As for Calgary...
I would trade Kadri this season now, and I would do it to make room. Zary has been doing well, and I think he should move to the middle consistently, just like they did with Lindholm. Remember that Lindholm was playing wing, and they had tried him at center once and moved him back. Then they wanted to try it again, and Lindholm was smart and said: "Ok, I agree to move to the middle, but if it happens, I want a long look there, not a short one." Rest was history - Lindholm continues to be a center.
If Zary can learn to become an effective center here, it will only help. If it works out, great. if it doesn't, then at least some other team may think that they can turn this young center into a productive one. Centers get more value, period. Having Zary work out as a 2nd or 3rd line center would be really helpful. If he gets pushed-out later down the road by Reschny or Stocksellus - or someone else that the Flames draft - then great! You flip him for a good return. I just think that Zary has both earned it, and I also think... so what if it fails? Flames are not competing. I would rather have him work out and then make Frost expendable next season, rather than having him hold Calgary hostage and demand more money and term that what he is worth.
Kadri has been terrible lately, and while I do expect him to improve, if he does this all season long, I am not sure you can trade him next season. Maybe the GMs around the league will err on the side of caution and assume it is simply Father Time that caught-up to Kadri. I think given his age, he becomes a negative asset the first time he has a poor season.
At any rate, it will be interesting to see how Kadri responds how the Flames handle this.
