I might guess the tax situation between the two locales will garner more consideration. California has higher taxes and the Bay Area is an expensive place to live. Both states have high property taxes with California hitting new residents.

And if taxes ARE a significant factor for you, and you're thinking about Boston, you can always live in New Hampshire (which has no state tax)

If the contract differential is 8x7 or 9.5x8 then it probably gives him real pause but I’m guessing if he figures the difference is only six million then it won’t. That’s ignoring tax differentials that are likely in Vegas’ favour vs Boston as well.

Cool. Good for Stemit.
The point still stands, you think he is willing to throw away millions of dollars but you get your hackles up depending on how big the number is. $6M is fine, $36M is not fine. But either way he still has "generational wealth".
Either way, I think your "generational wealth" comment it is a silly argument. Andersson has some great suitors that are just as likely to be cup contenders in the coming years and he doesn't have to sacrifice millions of dollars to sign with them because they are willing and able to trade for his services now instead of waiting for July 1st to go to Vegas.
I think the Sharks are potentially the best option from Andersson's perspective and wouldn't he feel silly if he goes to Vegas and then gets blown out of the playoffs by the Sharks year after year.

I mean, a deal will come sooner than later. The longer this drags, the more it weighs down the locker room.

The longer it drags the more CP members will be purchasing new keyboards so they can still have an F5 key.

Lol last bit of thread derailing on this but it’s almost like the size of the differential matters when you are making an argument about salary and lifestyle. 46% less is a lot different than 8% less.

I don’t think it does if Andersson is continuing to play like he is. It’s just part of the business

Probably, just as Flames did with bidders, Ras and Claude want to negotiate an extension with 2-3 teams to similarly create a bidding war.
So each team that Ras would consider extending with gets a deal in principle with Craig, then he greenlights extension talks with a set deadline date that he and Ras’ team agree to, and then Claude and teams have at it before Ras make his final pick.
Basically a mini free agency with bonus of having the extra contract duration.
If I was his agent thats the scenario I would have pitched Craig.
Everyone wins.

I don't understand why the contract is taking so long, they sign these big contracts within half an hour on July 1st and they're not allowed to chat in advance

If you work in Boston, I’d imagine you’d pay state income tax in Massachusetts. And property taxes in New Hampshire.

I always thought this year you’d want to wait till after the Olympics to acquire any Olympic bound player. Doesn’t make sense to risk injury there IMO. Would be good for the flames if they can get it done before.

I think this year with so few sellers if you wait on your principles you will be looking at a pretty thin market after the Olympics the way things are going. Plus this isn't a ufa rental they are obviously see Rasmus as a fit for a few years so the Olympics probably carry less weight in their considerations.

you risk injury in every day life, Boston has a 65% chance of making hte playoffs, you got to get there first. SJ is not a guarantee for playoffs with a worst % to make it. So attractive to get done now plus create time to gel with new team!

Read here:

Those contracts don't really turn out too well...mostly, especially if long-term, which is what we assume Raz would want.

I think it’s because Conroy is making this happen early (i.e. he is going to trade Andersson before the Olympics so any team that wants a shot at him needs to put in offers now). I also think the fact that most teams in the running for Andersson are pushing for him with an extension if they are going to make the trade at all. Then the risk of injury at the plympics is only likely a risk to this season but they have the benefit of the player past this season. As a rental, the acquiring team take on more risk getting him early.

At that point it is just negotiation. How much are you willing to leave on the table? 20%? 15%? 12%? Is 8% your maximum throw away (at $6M)?
And, how much value are you getting out of leaving that money behind? Do you think VGK is a lot more likely to win the cup than the Bruins, Sharks, Stars, etc.? How long do you think their window is good for?
The Vegas core is strong but it is also getting to be one of the oldest groups of the contenders. Bruins are similarly aged (until Hagens joins the group). Stars' core are quite a bit younger with guys like Robertson, Johnston, and Harley in the mix.
Sharks, Ducks, Mammoth, Kraken are all significantly younger cores that may be playoff contenders right away and cup contenders after a couple of more adds.
In each of these cap structures, Andersson wants to maximize his career earnings and the easiest way to do that is with an 8 year contract so he has a lower AAV against the team cap without sacrificing his own earnings.

I think the most important thing UFA’s look at is where they want to live with their families, provided the dollars are pretty close.
That can be assessed prior to July 1.
Andersson may simply not want to live on the west coast period. I have no idea, but just because SAN Jose seems like a good choice to us, does not mean it’s a good choice for Andersson and his family.
