Tbh most of the attendees (operators, construction types) were strongly in agreement with the conspiracies.
I thought about getting into a back and forth, but really didn't feel comfortable in the setting.

They took down the website after about 30 minutes of struggles. I don't know if anyone was actually able to make a reservation but it's hard to believe that this keeps happening year after year.

Pfft...as I recall actually 'flying' is a no-brainer, the thing practically flies itself! Its the whole...taking off and landing bit that gets somewhat tricky.

I think the fact that any plane lands is a fricken miracle. Like, isn't the 3-wheel position basically the most crashable configuration of wheels possible? Didn't they outlaw motor vehicles with that wheel config because they crashed too much? How does a plane not dip into an uncontrollable barrel roll across the tarmac every time its wheels hit the ground?
Yes, this the 30 seconds of anxiety I have on every flight when I have to internally accept my death each time. Happy flying everyone!

three wheels are unstable if you want to turn at speed. Airplanes, when flown properly, do not turn on the ground at speed.
And two wheels are dangerous. Tail draggers notorious for ground loops. I know they have a small wheel back there, but it's about as useful as t-rex's arms are for playing piano. So two wheels.

Yeah, and I have a tough time visualizing how the steering is kept from slipping the even tiny bit it would seem to need to cause a crash, being that it's a huge thing travelling at a tremendous speed and has the windspeed impacting it significantly as well.
I've been on planes that have landed while bobbing 10+feet side to side just before touching ground and just been left wondering how thats not only possible but doesn't result in daily crashes.
It doesn't stop me from flying, I'm on planes a decent amount and don't have problems with it. It's literally the 15-30 seconds right before touching the ground to feeling the full deceleration that I just have this burst of morbid curiosity.

I don't think they really steer with the wheel at speed, I think they steer with the flaps, essentially like leaning on a bike.

Right, but like a small burst of wind can't suddenly change that? The wind speed each wing (and each flap) is interacting with is variable, no?
Anyways it obviously happens safely 1000's of times per day across the world so it's better engineered than my thoughts about it are. It's just about that moment it touches down, especially in some tough weather, that I wonder how a flap didn't go up/down too early/late when talking about the amount of force happening at that time (airspeed hitting flaps, cross winds, 3 wheels hitting the ground, conditions of the tarmac, airspeed changing under the plane as it approaches the ground, etc) and how small the margin for error must be to keep one wing from dipping down or getting pushed up enough to cause a problem in that moment.
The answer is probably that's it's much more forgiving than I think, but it just seems to be a very delicate balance that could so easily be thrown off.

I think you are basically describing why takeoff / landing used to be so much more turbulent, before super sensitive actuators that actively respond to a bunch of sensors.
I think you have the difficulty of the problem right, but the tech is just better than you're thinking. (I'm also not a big aviation nerd, so who knows? not me)

I think momentum plays a big part as well. The plane may be rolling left or right or shifting sideways, but the bulk of the force moment is down the runway.

On a tricycle style landing gear setup the aircrafts centre of gravity is forward of the main wheels, and that causes the aircraft to naturally straighten itself out (somewhat) on touchdown in a crosswind type situation.
Tail draggers are super fun to fly though, but do present a lot of tricky handling on the ground and at takeoff and landing.
A little writeup on the differences here: https://highsierrapilots.club/tricyc...-taildraggers/

I phoned someone today--it happens--and on their personal line I get some kind of chatbot that asks me to state my name, then what my business is. Yeah, #### that noise. Ain't nobody got time for that.
Apparently it's a Fido thing?

Just got my first Google Pixel (10 Pro), haven't tried that feature yet, but it has it too. Basically acts like an assistant, I think the point is to filter out unwanted calls. But on the other end of it, yeah I'd probably hang up too.

Telus/Koodo has a feature where it requires callers to press a random number to be connected. You can add numbers that it will automatically allow through. Since turning on that feature, the amount of spam calls I receive has dropped to virtually nothing (very rarely, one will get through).
