NBA system is often viewed as being perhaps too punitive, but it's working so far to improve competitive balance.

I know I said in my post “not allow FA Signings”
I actually wish the NHL allowed players to resign with their teams over the cap for a penalty- I like this about the NBA system - keep
Home grown guys together longer .
The issue is it get so complicated with trades and mid level exceptions I don’t see MLB going that direction

And yet to be seen, but hopefully providing offense only a small notch below.
With better baserunning ability, better glove, better arm.
We certainly haven't got worse.

I’m not shocked after the Tucker signing he got more than $40M. I don’t blame the Jays for walking away. They dodged a bullet not going to 10 years. He’s a great player IMO, but he’d be an anchor after 7 years. No point of tying that much money on him. Sucks though. Shocked the Yanks didn’t jump in last minute too. I was certain they’d get there eventually.

Yeah I can't see MLB players accepting things like a MLE, something they'd probably look at as devaluing their overall salaries. NBA system is decent, I do wish there was a little more flex to go over to let teams have longer windows, but it's definitely helped make the league more wide open. Indiana got to a NBA Finals Game 7 last season, no way that could have happened 10 years ago under the old system.

They haven't tried self-control yet. No one has a gun to anyones head forcing teams to spend money...
I object to hard caps. Keep with the luxery tax system (stiffer penalties are fine thou), and institute a soft floor.

Haha well 31 teams can wish the Dodgers would show self control all they want. !
Not sure that’s a system that will work

When you add in the luxury tax the Dodgers are actually paying $110m for Tucker this upcoming season.

The rumors were he wanted 7 x $200M, and sounds like up until Tucker signed that would have gotten it done.
I think 6 x $180M right after the season could have gotten it done. Its' more AAV but one less year of term than what his ask was.

Missed out on both Bo and Tucker but at least they went to the NL and not a direct competitor. Jays have a really good, deep, well balanced team on paper. Should hopefully be just fine.

TBH I kind of like this approach from the Mets.
These long term contracts end up killing you in the back years, and the luxury tax isn't punitive enough in the first tranche.
So if you can sign a guy for $126M x 3 and get his 3 peak seasons you're probably better off than going 7 x $200M and paying for those bad years on the back end of the contract.

Better to stay away from these crazy contracts and build from within.

Really? Yikes. That's a risk for him as well, imo. If he's terrible defensively his next contract might be an "aging DH" type one.
2B is clearly the best way for him to maximize his value.

MLB only has 31 teams. Of course, the Dodgers spend money like they're 2 teams...

If you cut the Dodgers payroll in half they would still have a higher payroll than 16 MLB teams.
Because of the luxury tax, they will pay more for Kyle Tucker in 2026 than Miami, Cleveland and Tampa will pay for their entire rosters.

Any truth to them using Bo at third? I can’t imagine it ends well. Bo’s always been a bit scared of hard hit balls by retreating rather than attacking a bit. While it may not be a disaster, with short fuses because of the past years’ lack of success, I can see some rough patches with him scapegoated if they don’t perform well.

Seems like that's the plan, which frankly might be the nuttiest part of this nutty deal with the Mets.

He could literally play these three years and just walk away with more career earnings than almost every 2nd base to ever play. He maximized his value. The 30+ portion of his career is all gravy.
