Gridin was picked with the 1st in that same Lindholm trade that landed Brz; 29 YO kuzmenko and not waiver claimed Pelletier turned into 25 and 26 YO frost and Farabee; over the hill Markstrom turned into 24 YO Bahl and 1st round pick Reschny. He turned Mangi into a 2nd round pick and got mid picks for Zad as well. Quietly gone about his business while dealing with a media that has been saying he’d get less than desired value in trades which did happen with Hanifin and Tanev but we still have an unprotected 26 1st from the Hanifin trade to look forward to. Conroy has done solid solid work so far IMO

Frost/Farabee trade is the only one a reasonable person could call retooling trade...the rest rebuild trades. Like Hanifin was traded for a 15 year old lol

I think some people think it is only a rebuild if players enter the organization as 18-year-olds or younger.

A bonafide multi party bidding war for a Flame? Wow! Whne is the last time that happened? Maybe never?
If this is true, then Conroy has done a superb job with this. Ras has been productive, no distractions, everyone leaving on good terms, massive haul inbound for our guy. Wow!
Looking forward to celebrating this with the rest of y'all.

It’s not a rebuild until it’s Nick Foligno, a 1st overall and 21 rookies.

Yes, cheers to everyone who posts respectfully and broadens the debate, especially those I disagree with. And thanks for the updates, Royle, and to Sec for keeping our minds nimble with the cryptic posts. This season would be hard to navigate as a fan without CP to keep it interesting.

It's clearly been a rebuild but not a tank up until this point.
Rebuild doesn't always have to equal intentional tank, I'd argue most teams that start rebuilding don't intentionally tank.
It just eventually happens and you have a couple bad years and draft high.

Relax all of you. I understand they got picks that are future players. He also added ~25 yr old players to help retool in all of them.
A 21 year old Danielson who hasn’t played in the nhl much and a first is a 2-3 year outlook move and not a right now “distressed assets/fresh start/rebiggle” add.
You guys ape over one sentence my god

I fail to see the detractor though in loading up on picks and counting on the internal team to load the prospect cupboards; teams love their own guys they draft and it’s often hard to pry them away especially when the media was downplaying returns for Hanifin and Tanev especially. Conroy worked with what he had and while not adding too many impact prospects through trade he has done incredibly well with the picks gained looking at early returns so far. I think the truth is somewhere in the middle of both opinions though but also think once Conroy pulls the trigger on 2 or 3 of the rumoured guys it’ll be hard to argue it’s a rebiggle versus a rebuild; especially because the media finally seems to be pushing a positive narrative for our rumoured returns.

Well the part of his point that's factual is Flames have made very few trades for prospects at this point, Brz was the only real one.
The focus has been picks and younger roster ready players.
But due to this team trading a lot of picks and younger players away under the previous regime, there was a lack of 21-25 year olds in the organization that were ready to be NHLers.
So I do think Conroy did focus on trying to supplement that age range, and he was very clear that it was a focus of his in interviews at times as well.
But I don't think this means it isn't a rebuild, means Conroy wanted to build a more natural progression in the age of the team.
Edit: Grushnikov probably the other more prospect leaning player as well.

Thank you Matt. I also didn’t say I was upset with the approach thus far. They are jumping to conclusions and “making facts up”. Nor did I say it wasn’t a rebuild. Simply that Conroy going futures only would be different than the past.
Not that deep of a post.

I don't know if you have seen the ReBiggle shirts they created on Barn Burner but it comes with a definition of the word on the shirt:
-"To endeavor to construct a competitive or at least respectable hockey team, but to fail so comprehensively that a full rebuild accidentally occurs".
I thought it was hilarious. The Flames organization is not so happy about the shirts though from the sounds of it lol.

Tanev was traded for picks and a 20 year old
Zadorov was traded for picks
Lindholm was traded for picks, prospects and a cap dump
Markstom was traded for picks and a 23 year old
I guess Hanifin was traded for a first and an older player but considering he wasnt a regular NHLer not sure if that is a retool move
There certainly wasn't a 25 year old retool player in ever deal

How is a respectful and well constructed post "going ape?" That's probably a bit of an overreaction on your part.

No one is aping. Everyone has a right to post, and if you state something that is wrong, others will respond to demonstrate why. You said this:

That is ridiculously inaccurate. Conroy's collection of acquired picks so far:
3 1sts, 2 2nds, 3 3rds, 1 4th and 1 5th
If you don't want reactions to your posts, don't post garbage that people will obviously react to.

That gave me a laugh, too, even though I don't agree with the definition's assessment of what Conroy is actually doing/planning to do. Though I can't argue that it's the best definition of "rebiggle" I've seen so far.
If the Flames get McKenna, Danielson, and 3 additional 1st round picks+ after trading away Andersson, Coleman, and Kadri, will that make "rebiggle" the Word of the Year for 2026?
