Things do not look bad in Buffalo anymore. They are no longer a good example of why rebuilding is a bad idea. Edmonton too.

Who is the new example now?
I'm all for cheering Buffalo to make the playoffs this season, but come on lol. They're barely in a spot right now, and all it took was a crazy streak to get them in that position. A month or so back, they were floundering near the bottom along with the Flames.

Let's hold off on calling their perpetual rebuild over until they actually secure a playoff spot, yah?

He would only have time to do that if it was his job to do that.

I think Lebrun is one of the most plugged in insiders in the business, and generally stuff coming from him is well sourced. Naming the owner and it being clickbait would be one of the quickest ways to lose credibility in this business, I’d think.

So anything with insiders shouldn’t be taken as gospel, as its commentary combined with whispers they’ve heard, but it is still relevant information and probably something to it.

Think we had a bunch of "insiders" trying to hop on information yesterday.

Or, maybe, he’s not just farming for clicks and has a source with information that’s been consistent these past few weeks?

It doesn't matter how many GMs, coaches, and players they've gone through. They've been a laughing stock for a long time no matter who they bring in and no team should want to emulate that.

It's going to take them having success for numerous seasons for people to stop using them as a bad example.

The Flames lost Gaudreau to free agency and Tkachuk demanded a trade. They tried to avoid a rebuild and failed. This will be 4 years straight out of the playoffs and another round of selling off players. By trying to avoid being Buffalo they are failing to a point where they are turning into Buffalo.

These decisions similar to Buffalo and failing after they got Eichel should not be on Conroy and Adams/JK. Rebuild #2 for Buffalo looks very good now, even though some on here said they weren't good earlier this season and most said Adams is the worst GM in the league.

Retool #1 for Calgary failed. Conroy took over and we will see how that goes, but Flames owners being worried about being Buffalo is funny because decision a few years ago and being afraid to be Buffalo has turned them into the next Buffalo.

The irony is that a bad owner and terrible GM making terrible choices is what's sunk the Buffalo franchise for 2 decades.

Bad signings
Chasing bad contracts (UFA)
Trading away prospects due to failures

Coincidentally enough its something Maloney should be familiar with during his tenure with Arizona, who should be considered the Buffalo of the west.

But decisions go both ways. Q Hughes wants out of Vancouver and they trade him for young players and prospects.

Tkachuk wants out and we get 30 years olds trying to win.

Now we are Buffalo because we are afraid of being Buffalo?

Buffalo was not rebuilding 14 straight years.

Let’s go Conroy. Burning good negotiation time on the other assets.

Yep, starting to think everyone jumped on the Twitter rumors and there might be no trade coming.

If you are scared of being Buffalo, be better…don’t be Buffalo, be Pittsburgh, be Chicago, be Tampa Bay, be Colorado, be Florida, hell be Edmonton and lose in the finals twice in a row that’s progress.

Nope let’s not be Buffalo, we like Dallas, WTF has Dallas done?

Maybe. But I would counter with two points:
  1. What information did he even present in that post? Nothing but a vague reference to not wanting to end up like Buffalo - which is the exact same thing he has been saying for months. So again, nothing new to see here.
  2. What about the comment says anything contrary to what it appears the Flames are actually doing (i.e. continuing to sell vets and execute their rebiggle)?

Steinberg (for example) doesn't jump at twitter rumours, and he is one of several people around the team that have indicated this is happening sooner than later. Chill.

A trade is definitely coming. I think some people underestimate how long a deal can take to come to fruition especially if a sign and trade is being discussed. These are complicated transactions and difficult negotiations. You are dealing with other counterparts who are very high level negotiators, this is not like making a trade on a video game.

I think it is pretty much a done deal. I guess we will know exactly how close as we get closer to the game tonight. From what have gathered reading the tea leaves is that a deal is close to be hammered out with maybe the agent getting things sorted on the extension. IF we are at that stage then Andersson will not play.

They can't have a good-looking young team with tons of promise and miss the playoffs?

If SJ misses the playoffs should the rebuild again?

I do hope that we get this dealt with soon so we can start putting Hanley and Pachal in more of an elevated role to increase their value. Ideally, have Bahl and Weegar together and have Hanley/Pachal begin to get some middle pairing ice time (18-20 minutes). Have Kuznetsov paired with Parekh/Brzu and just alternate them for the rest of the season. Then have Parekh in the AHL next season and have Kuz/Brzu as the bottom pairing for next season, or even the middle pairing if we've dealt one/both of Hanley and Pachal. I think with their low cap hits, Hanley and Pachal could fetch a 3rd or 4th from a desperate team riddled with injuries.
