Re: the debate about sit the guy or not if a trade is close;
I think context matters. Lots of times teams are still trying to win. Do the Flames care if they win? Should they?

If this trade isn't announced in the next 15 minutes then I'm just going to have to wait longer.

That rumour was pretty old. The market has changed as has his performance.
Andersson's current contract put him at 5.6-4.8% of the cap from start to end. It was a very cheap contract for a guy who ended up establishing himself as a top pair D.
With the cap going up to $104M and then $113.5M, this $7.5M number would put him at 7.2% and then 6.6% of the cap. That is getting back into very cheap and undervalued territory, like second pair numbers.
$9.5M would put him at 9.1% and then 8.4%. That is reasonable top pair percentages and also what Dobson just signed as an RFA. I doubt Andersson values himself less than Dobson just because the other guy is a few years younger. Especially while they are having identical seasons points wise (Andersson has more goals).

In hindsight, I think it means for us to take a smoke break and come back in 15.

Jimmy Snuggerud would be a nice get, but I doubt STL trades him anywhere.

Well, time to go to lunch. I've heard 2 Flames trades break when I was driving to/from work at lunch time. Looks like we'll be hearing something in the next few minutes.

Dobson is 3 years younger and his contract will end 4 years sooner (since his has already started).
That's at 35-38 years old. That's a big difference contract wise.

Not worse than this.
This has been in a word, ridiculous. I think Knut nailed it when he said it’s probably not so much that things are necessarily different with trades these days it’s the phones and constant refresh and ability to hit f5 culture expecting instantaneous and frequent updates for the team.
That said, this one’s been going on a year and it’s getting a little much. Same with Coleman / Kadri, who should have been traded in November. Now ones injured and the other decided to not care anymore. It was obvious back in November what to do. Flames looking borderline mismanaged in all this, in combination with the poor PR etc.

Nah. Markstrom was almost done and then was kicked into the offseason. Even if the Flames were hellbent on trading Coleman in November they can’t force a team to make a trade unless they accept trash and Coleman and Kadri have trade protections that give them a fair amount or control. Coleman basically has a NMC

To whom and for what? There were a grand total of two trades in the NHL in November – both for tweener defencemen.
Would you be happy trading Kadri for an AHL defenceman?

You also need a partner to make a trade happen

That is your view of Andersson where you value age over everything.
Try and ditch the bias for a moment and think about it more objectively. - How does RFA vs. UFA change the situation? (Andersson is a UFA, Dobson was an RFA)
- How does play time change the situation? (Andersson consistently plays bigger minutes than Dobson)
- How does the market and bidding war change the situation? (Many teams are in on Andersson, Dobson spoke to the Islanders and then Canadiens)
- Currently, Andersson is putting up the same number of points on the second worst scoring team in the league as Dobson who is on the 7th best scoring team.
I doubt Andersson is going to look at that and settle for less when he has massive leverage.

One summer, every time I went out for lunch with people, a signing or trade broke.
The Tkachuk trade broke while I was at a BBQ.
