Seems like Ras and his agent are also taking the risk here that some team will bite the bullet and offer him some extra to get the deal done now too. Some team may get caught up in the bidding war and not want to risk him going to UFA where there will be even more competing offers. If so, this could be an awesome result for both the Flames and Ras.

He values the idea of going to market, considering a multitude of options in terms of contention windows/location and lifestyle for family, even a bidding war with cap increases. In order to forego that in advance of actually stepping foot into an organization, he wants a premium, and doesn't sound like 7 vs 8 years means as much as the other things.
Completely fair from his perspective IMO.
|
Makes sense. Especially if the team/city is one he isn't 100% convinced will be a fit (I'm looking at you Detroit). Other teams that are either more proven or have more impressive stars (Celebrini) might make it easier for him to extend quickly.
Basically, as long as he isn't saying "no" outright, the door is open and the team can proceed with the trade and then negotiate after.

I don't think 9x8 is big enough. Dobson just got 9.5 with RFA years in the contract. I think Andersson's "premium skip the bidding war" number is closer to 10. Then maybe he'll come down to 9.5 with a full NMC for the entire contract.

Yes probably, although taking on Chariot's contract wouldn't be a bad idea - could probably flip him for something if you hold some of his salary. No idea if Detroit values him or not - I know he's not loved by the analytics crowd.

Wasn't there a report that Rasmus want 7.5 x 8 from CGY?
I can see 9 being his premium " buy my UFA experience from me" ask.

But with multiple teams in play and offering extensions, they should be motivated to get it done as there is a decent risk that Rasmus never makes it to UFA.
|
As a counterpoint, I think it could assist us. If all teams know that Ras is willing to extend but they simply have to overpay, that arguably increases the degree to which they're competing against each other to land him.
We also don't know what the "overpay" ask is for Ras to extend sight unseen.
With the cap going up I can't imagine another $1m/yr for Ras would be a deal-breaker for teams that believe he moves the needle for them.

If the Red Wings are gearing up for a playoff run then they would rather keep Chariot for depth. They are not hurting for cap space.

Dobson was 25 when traded and has had a 70pt season when he was 23/24 and a 50pt season when he was 21/22. He is a much better asset than Andersson.
