If you like metalcore and female vocals, give Gore. a listen. Nothing groundbreaking, but the vocalist is excellent (and she's a NASA engineer, which is freaking badass) and they have an interesting bit of shoegaze in their sound. Really liked their recent EP "If You Do Not Fear Me ...".
These guys will be playing at the Palace tomorrow night, tickets are pretty well priced at $50 too. I’ll be the guy in blue jeans, black shirt and the arm tattoo at the show.

Devin Townsend is a guy I like, he's a great player, smart as hell and incredibly talented but for some reason I just don't listen to his stuff. I have one of his CDs on my shelf, never have reached for it. Is there one specific song I could check out to give him another shot?
I remember not caring about Mastodon, thought there were over rated as hell until they released "Motherload". That one song won me over.
Same with Dillinger Escape Plan, didn't give a #### and now I've become a massive fan of Better Lovers, can't stop listening to them.

Townsend is like Frank Zappa in the sense that his output is so varied it's hard to pick one specific tune to act as an intro. I'll throw you a few (the last one is pretty much every genre of music ever, mixed into 7 1/2 minutes):
