Henry is also not the fastest skater and I think a 3rd pairing guy at best.

Does it? I think it could actually speed things up. If a GM tells Conroy that they want to offer Andersson an 8x8 contract and Conroy already knows that he won't accept that then he can tell them directly to up their offer. Alternatively, Conroy has already negotiated with Andersson and can establish what the future contract looks like. Then it is just a matter of the other GM accepting that deal that Andersson has agreed to.
If they won't offer something that Andersson might accept then the trade is going to fall off of the rails and Conroy needs to quickly move on or change the trade details from a sign & trade to a straight trade where the risk of extension is passed to the other GM.
I would argue that it would be slower to have Conroy work out the trade details and then step out of the way only to find out that Andersson and the other GM cannot get on the same page. That is how you get into the Hanifin situation where he starts blocking trade partners instead of allowing Conroy to reframe the trade and keep negotiations moving to the Flames benefit.

Don't get me started about that time in 2019 I got stuck behind Treliving's car during a rainstorm.

If you could take Liam or Henry in a deal, who would it be?

Greentree has taken a step back offensively this season too, which is surprising given his output last season and I think a red flag. But, he plays the type of game we are lacking in our top 6 (maybe Klapka is currently giving us this?)
I dont love dealing with LA but their 1st would be an excellent pick up. Danielson + 1st is a better return, but Greentree + 1st would be very acceptable.

Remember that time a player got traded in the middle of a game (Duchene)? People need to stop looking at every little thing as a reason for a player to not be traded. The trade will happen whenever the teams agree to terms.
Ideally not in the middle of a game... but it happens when it happens.

Seravalli and Buccigross discuss Blake Coleman as a great fit for Tampa. Not a rumour, just hockey fit

Nothing will top Conroy getting stranded in Red Deer after getting traded back to Calgary.

Having a ballpark of where Andersson will sign and actually being involved in the negotiations are a completely different thing. The other GM also wouldn’t love to have Conroy involved as he could then use that as leverage to send Andersson to another team. There is also issues with NTCs and signing bonuses etc.
The issue with the Hanifin trade seems to be that there was no firm framework in place for for a trade return. This way is simpler, align on the trade return and then see if there is a contract fit.

Exactly. All you have to do to avoid the Hanifin situation is to define the return first, then ask the player if they'll sign there.

I had thought the flames were going to Rantanen this situation, basically saying no talks with Rasmus until after a trade you can assume the risk if you want or eff off - maybe you can re-sign him maybe you can't that's not my problem. Probably you get less of a return but you have a broader market and you can't get painted into a corner.
If they negotiate deals and then let the team talk to Rasmus before they pull the trigger he can say no to them one by one and put us right back in the Hanifin corner where it's one team or rental, so I don't see how it makes any sense.

I remember that Kromm and Konroyd just went down the hall, put on Isles jerseys and played against Calgary that night. Tonelli didn't play against the Isles though. Some sort of condition on the trade.
