That immunity clause has limit, it’s a two part test. The agent has to be performing its duties or acting as an official ( they were) and there actions have to be deemed reasonable by the judge.
The second part is open to interpretation obviously, but that’s where a case like this would be tested.

That is not true according to people who know the law. Vance does not understand the law or just blatantly lied about it.

The ICE ####s that watched a murder in front of them and then didn't do anything other than high five, shouldn't walk away from this either. This is the reason that they hide their coward faces.

I’m actually worried about a scenario where Trump promises $$ to Albertans to vote yes to separation. He might be able to buy separation for say $4B. How much more to buy a 51st state?

There are approximately 3 million eligible Alberta voters. Let's say 75% turnout, since it would be an important vote. That's 2.25 million voters. Bribing half of them with $10k each would be about $11 billion. Is $10k enoguh for half of Albertans to shift their vote? I kinda doubt it. But at $100k, or $111 billion you might move enough people. And $100 billion is nothing to the US government.

Since when does this regime care about the law? They have shown time and time again they don't have to answer to the law and they have all the big court judges in their back pocket.

Yea I don't know why people keep rolling out the "He can't do that because..." line, Trump has shown that he's above the law and constitution so many times now. Say Minnesota actually convicts the guy, they would just refuse to turn him over and that would be it. They would face no consequences from defying a lawful order and people would forget as soon as Trump does the next heinous thing on his list

You made what appeared to be a legal argument. If you argument is “absolutely states can prosecute a federal agent, there is no blanket immunity but it does not matter because Trump does not follow the law” J would agree with you.

Well they have already come out and said their federal agents have immunity. I was backing up my point by saying it doesn't matter what the law actually says. In the end however you want to say it this guy isn't going to face any repercussions for his actions.

I can't see where these alleged requests for a $500 million US "loan" to bankroll Alberta Independence wouldn't come without onerous conditions. More likely Alberta pays to join the US, Venezuela-style. Total capitulation of resource rights.

The more ice agents push their boundaries and go unpunished, the more brash they will become and commit even more heinous acts.

This is pretty much par for the course with all American Law Enforcement.
When there are no consequences for actions then the actions escalate. We saw it during the Pandemic with BLM rallies and various other protests.
Apparently in America if you've got a badge you're essentially James Bond with a License to Kill.

They're also pushing the boundaries of what supporters will normalize.
Keep de humanizing & blaming the victims and keep pushing what can be done to them.
Eventually there's no difference in killing or raping 1 "left wing whacko" or killing 10,000 by another means.
We've seen this playbook before.

I would not be surprised if some of the federal detention centers and prisons come to the conclusion that it's cheaper and more convenient to just have some of them die than to have to look after their basic needs and go through the deportation process. If there are no repercussions and absolute immunity for anything, then there is nothing stopping them.
But yeah, if brazen murder of citizens if fine, the rape and torture of non-citizens probably won't get a second thought especially if it isn't being recorded.

Some people we convinced that US will convert CAD to USD for all Albertans.
Absolutely no idea how that would even work, logistically.

It will also inevitably lead to a citizen taking action against ICE in a seriously violent way, which will give the excuse for even tighter crackdowns.
The playbook is obvious.

It's literally just s2e7 of Andor being enacted, with the US Government predictably playing the role of the Empire. Who knows, maybe they'll even go so far as to incite the violence by having someone shoot one of their own ICE guys.
