If the deal is being leaked, it must be close to be agreed to or is this pressure on Ras? Because reply to his own tweet says, "no extension no deal".
There have been a few comments about the pressure being on Andersson... but I would argue that the pressure is really on the Red Wings to put forth a good offer.
If they show up with 8x8 then of course he won't sign. 9.5x8 or 10x8 and it is most likely a done deal.
All they have to do is give him a 8 year deal with a total value that would beat out the best 7 year deal that he thinks he could get. Even if Andersson thinks he has 10 years left in the tank, he would need to play it out with his agent:
- 9.5x8 + 3x2 = 82M
- 10x7 + 4x3 = 82M
In either case, the second contract likely does not happen or if it does happen it is probably for league minimum dollars instead of $4M per year. Getting the 8 year deal has value to both Andersson (better total career earnings) and to the team (lower cap hit).

I think the longer it drags out the potential for haggling increases. By that I mean add-ons like incidental picks spread over time, spare parts and minor leaguers. The Flames are currently sitting on 45 contracts in the organization.

Flames win
McKenna wants to be a flame
Coleman might be traded before the Olympic break
Danielson + 1st is on the table
What is going on?
I’m a huge fan of Danielson. I wanted him in that 2023 draft. Earlier rankings had him within range of the flames but then he rose up the rankings and the flames also won some games so my hopes were slashed knowing he would not make it to them. I distinctly remember when Danielson was drafted that they mentioned Bedard saying Danielson was the toughest player to play against in the WHL. He has a very complete game and he plays with speed. Would be a great replacement for Backlund. Would be excited if the flames managed to get him in an Andersson trade.

Reached out to Dougie Hamilton’s agent J.P. Barry. His response:
“Dougie was informed today that he will be not be playing now that Kovacevic is back in the lineup. In our view,
this decision is all about business rather than his game right now. Singling him out seems very calculated at this stage.
Dougie has a 10-team trade list and there have been efforts to trade him going back to the draft last year. We have made it clear to the Devils that we will consider teams outside our list and other creative ways to get to a team that is mutually acceptable.”
So Hamilton camp willing to be flexible beyond 10-team list if it means finding suitable team in a trade.
I wonder if Dougie wonders why Dougie’s been traded so many times.
Sec - any rumblings on connections between Calgary and Anaheim? I understand they're totally ####ting the bed right now, but they're on the verge of being damn good. They have a ton of good prospects and an abundance of draft picks as well.
I don’t think the need to spend futures at this point - it’s hot or cold in Anaheim. I think they’ll ride the season.

Very happy to hear the latest rumours! Obviously, I'm a big fan of Danielson, but I also like a lot of Detroit's young assets- ASP, LBN, Bear, Kiiskinen, Genborg, Buium, and Kasper.

Danielson to me could/should be a 1b center. But if Reschny hits and is that #1, a 2nd line C of Danielson is a pretty great top 2 C. Even if Danielson ends up a 3c, I'd still be pretty pumped he's our 3rd C if we get him.
Reschny and Danielson seem like similar 200 foot centres that are skilled enough so the offence doesn’t die on their sticks.
They both kind of give me Jonathan Toews vibes if they’re developed properly. Not going to be super flashy or score 100 points, but they are leaders who aren’t going to make many mistakes, and they would allow the flames to focus on drafting high octane wingers who put up the big points (like Kane).
If the Flames can shake loose Silayev from the Devils, that would get me excited. He skates fast, hits hard, and is enormous.
A pairing of Silayev - Parekh down the road would be interesting. Silayev can move the puck. Don't be fooled by the low scoring in the KHL.
I doubt Hamilton or Palat would waive to come here, but if somehow one or both of them were part coming back in a Coleman trade as cap dumps, I would want Silayev to be the sweetener for the cap dump. I was really impressed by Phillips during the preseason, but Silayev is on a completely different level. He has top-pairing potential, and I think he would be a perfect compliment to Parekh in every way.
Either way, I am betting Fitzgerald is on the hot seat. The Devils had a tough rebuild, and are looking very much like a really mid team with bad goaltending. Desperate GMs make desperate moves. I would love to shake Silayev out of their hands somehow.
Trades like
Andersson for Nate Danielson + 2027 1st
Coleman for Sam O'Reilly + 1st or 2nd
Then there's Kadri to trade for a 1st +, potentially.
Then by the end of the year we could be adding
Danielson
O'Reilly
McKenna/Stenberg/Lawrence/Bjorck
to a pool of young pieces like Wolf, Reschny, Parekh, Gridin, Coronato, Potter etc. Plus the multiple firsts and whatever prospect we could get back for Kadri as well.
One hell of a start.
Yeah I’ve thought about Sam O’Reilly from Tampa for Coleman as well.
Dream home runs:
To DET: Andersson (extended)
To CGY: Danielson, ‘27 1st
To WSH: Kadri (50% retained - and informed OV isn’t retiring)
To CGY: Cristall, ‘26 1st
To TBL: Coleman (50% retained)
To CGY: O’Reilly, ‘26 or ‘27 2nd
That’d be smashing.
Hopefully ownership approves retention on Kadri, if it meant they could get another first round pick. I don't think they will need to retain on Andersson or Coleman, which leaves their last retention slot for Kadri. This is their last year on markstrom, and they have the cap space to go along with the their rebuilding window. Kadri at 3.5-4.0 million should entice a few buyers
Dallas, VGK also involved on the Rasmus front. Water's have been chummed and this is how a Forsberg level prospect got traded to Nashville. The pressure these teams are feeling to create separation is off the charts in the east and looking to get a lift.
Additionally.
Coleman's reps have been told to prepare: "it's a real possibility between now and Olympic break - that break could be nice to get settled with his young family" one source believes.
Get lost Vegas. If I was Conroy I’d be telling ras and agent we are not trading you to Vegas under any circumstances. They don’t have anything to offer and it will hurt the pick they already owe us.
Come on Stevie!!! Sell ras on Detroit.
As for Coleman that’s good news . Dallas bound?

I know there’s as many as 3 different “scenarios” from Detroit with varying picks and prospects.
I’ve been told who CGY has kept an eye on and has interest, but I haven’t heard of specific deals. Same names as previously reported:
Danielson
MB-Nygard
ASP
Other teams who are believed to have had serious conversations in the last 48hours:
LA
TOR
DAL
CAR
OTT
VGK
Thanks Royle. Of all those teams listed the Red Wings definitely have the most, and best, prospects at disposal for a trade. Hopefully a deal is able to get done.
