2026 Tennis thread
First of all, I hope all my fellow tennis fans had a happy and healthy holiday season and i also wish all the best to you and yours in 2026.
United Cup starts this weekend down under in Perth and Sydney with the Canadians playing in Sydney with a strong team highlighted by Felix and Victoria. 2025 was a fantastic season for Canadians and here's hoping our Canadian tennis heroes can replicate that success in 2026.

Sebastian Baez gets the biggest win of his career defeating Taylor Fritz at the United Cup (came back from a set and a break down).

Shapo loses to Raphael Collignon in straight sets in Brisbane and Felix lost to Zizou Bergs at the United Cup. Victoria Mboko on court as I type against Elise Mertens.

Can Dash go the entire year as the only one to post in this thread?
Evidently not!
Canada just needs one match today against Belgium to finish first in the group. So hopefully Mboko gets the job done.

That was a rough day down under yesterday, but also give credit to Belgium, they played lights out. It certainly didn't help that Felix wasn't feeling well and Gaby injured herself prior to the United Cup competition.

Better chance
Sinner winning the calendar slam
OR
Someone other than Sinner or Alcarez winning a slam

I'm going with the bolded, I think somebody could step up and smash and grab a major. i just don't think it's going to be Zverev (maybe Shelton or Tien? FAA usually plays well at the start of a season, he's played well at the Aussie Open in the past).

Leylah was drubbed 6-1 6-2 by Dayana Yastremska in Brisbane. Aside from Gabriel, it's been a dismal start for the Canadians. Of course, a strong showing at the Aussie Open later this month and these results will be quickly forgotten.

I don't think anyone should be surprised Shapo bombed in his first match. Props to him getting back into the top 30 but my expectations are very low for him in 2026.

these days you keep your ranking of top 30 you're making nearly two million a year (get seeded every grand slam and make the 3rd round)

That's the maddening thing about Shapo, you just never know when he might have one of those weeks when he's in the zone and will snatch a title or a finals appearance. He seems to raise his game against top 20 guys, but will often struggle against guys ranked in the top 50-100 range.
