There is a very real possibility we just keep treading water as a 15th-25th place year year to year. We're already on year 4 of that.
That's why some of us want management to stack the deck in a certain direction and do more, faster to ensure a shift.

We know what everyone wants, it gets posted 1,200 times a day.
But the fact is that there are not enough kids ready to take over and be competitive. The Flames are getting worse. They can do it quickly, or it will take a little longer, but the Flames are getting worse.
And regardless, overpaying for assets is not the path to getting better.

Yes both sides if the argument get talked about 1200 times a day. If its such an issue for you why are you contributing to the convo?
That's not a fact. That's your opinion. And although I hope youre right, I dont think its the most realistic outlook. Also this management is going to want to start adding eventually via UFA and trades, especially with the arena on the horizon. I doubt their looking to bottom out in the first year of the new arena. That leaves this year and maybe next.
I generally agree, we shouldn't be over paying for aassets. I might make an exception for a bonafide blue chip young 1c (which almost certainly won't be available anyways).

Canucks made a new contract offer to Keifer Sherwood but Friedman thinks there is still a sizeable gap between what the Canucks are offering and what Sherwood wants to do
Oilers have healthy scratched Mangiapane in 2 of the last 3 games
some interest in Mangiapane, Anaheim one of the teams
some think the 2nd year of contract will be a problem, but others don't
Friedman thinks eventually Oilers will find a trade partner for him
Jets are looking to see what they can do to add scoring
doesn't get sense anything imminent with Flames or Predators right now

I hope the Oilers are stuck with Mangiapane, have to eat 50% of his contract, or have to trade something substantial to dump the contract.

Toews as the Jets #2C seems to be a mill that they are stuck under, they keep on just rolling him out there, because there isn't a better option. Desperation breeds a panic deal. Yay!
They should not be bottom of the league. Heads are going to roll.

I can’t believe there’s a sucker out there willing to take Mangiapane. He’s so done.

The Jets looking to add from last place is good news.
Yes, climb out of that hole.

I would be good with Mangiapane + 2nd for future considerations. Gives the flames a body to trade Coleman away, the money is fine for this year next / not sure what his trade protection is, but he might waive to come home, knowing Edmonton they likely use the cap space to trade away Ekholm for a declining mid line winger.

We have plenty of bodies if we trade Coleman away. Do not trade for expired moldy bread that isn't even good enough for the Oilers non-existant depth.

You can have the same conversation without constantly reiterating what you want management to do.
But if you look at teams that end up really terrible, there’s just as many cases where they clearly planned to be a lot better and weren’t as there are teams that couldn’t have been anything but bad.
So what if the Flames add in UFA or make trades? Nashville added a bunch. How’s it going for them? lol

Maybe not but this old core is only gonna a year older next season. Maybe he keeps his powder dry and hopes this season is an anomaly, maybe he hopes they can do a St Louis and turn the ship around after the Olympics.
They are the Presidents Trophy winners.
