Talking to a player to suss out if their price tag is anywhere close to your internal valuation =/= talking to a player hell-bent on re-signing them

Outside of the few teams everyone's talked about recently, another team I've been pondering about this weekend that stems back from some summertime ponderings is Seattle.
Shane Wright still seems to me to be destined to be a flame and they need a shake up.

Yea it does take two, and he’s been very adamant for the better part of two seasons now that he’d rather go UFA and make a decision thats best for his family. Honestly, he’s earned that right and I don’t fault him for it, but let’s call a spade a spade and be honest with why both sides prefer to move on.
|
He looked pretty sincere in the interview, at least regarding how much he loves Calgary, and all the memories associated with the city. He could be having second thoughts about staying because leaving and moving your family is hard. I mean, I go back and forth before I make tough decisions in my life.
If all Calgary is offering is say $7-7.5M x 8, while he and the market value him as a $9-9.5M player, then I can see why he would say it takes two to tango. Andersson is and was aware that this is his last payday, and signing right after a lackluster season last year would've been a bad financial decision.
Finally, I would also argue that he tried to make Calgary into a contender, and worked and sacrificed as much as anyone. From the sounds of it, he came back too early from both of his injuries (broken fibula, and car accident), in order to try and help the Flames make the playoffs, and contend for the cup. I mean, what more can you ask from the guy?
I don't advocate bringing him back, but I also don't understand the need to dismiss the situation being tough on Andersson as a person.

After watching Andersson's interview last night, Conroy is ready to tango and sign him to a long-term blockbuster?

I am fine with keeping Andersson if it means we either a) Weegar fetches a haul (to his approval of being dealt) or b) Brzustewicz+(+) is dealt for an upgrade at forward. If anything happened, it would be the latter. I just hope RA knows he can come back when we are further established and a consistent contender. It’s just not the right time to shell out an extension for RA. If we don’t trade him, then I hope we deal both Kadri and Coleman AT MINIMUM.
I think the demand for Kadri or Coleman could very well happen when you’ve got the Olympics coming up. Assuming the NHL players get to represent their respective countries, it’s almost certain someone will get injured. Happens all the time.

Bringing back a rental which would be Anderson. It sounded like Anderson was going to have a tough time explaining the move to his kids. Maybe his kids go all Vladdy Jr on him and he signs with Calgary.
If they go out and get rentals I will personally kick Maloney in the junk.

No, that's too easy for Sec.
So I'm going with something like this...
Blockbuster founded in Dallas, so Dallas must be back to the front runner for something.
I'm going with Coleman and Ras to Dallas for ... I'm terrible at trade proposals.

I bet the Flames aren't offering max term either
The Blockbuster gif - maybe the Flames will most likely be moving Andersson as a rental?

Clearly the Flames are about to pick up ROR as a rental.
