There sure is a lot of smoke around this… I still don’t see anything that Calgary would want from Toronto other than Knies or Cowan.

I’m pretty meh when it comes to Danford, not sure about anyone else. It’s Cowan, Knies, and their 2028 first- that’s all they got to barter with.

Actually, I would LOVE to get C Harry Nansi, big C with skill who is breaking out in the OHL. C Tyler Hopkins would be great too, but I’m sure neither would be exciting for the majority of our fanbase- at least until rookie camp.

Treliving is also after two top-six forwards apparently. The Leafs may not pick in the first round until 2035 if he gets his way.

Or more likely he’s just preparing his “in on everything and tried really hard” excuse.

Since we know Brad loves him, perhaps a moderately retained Huberdeau…..

Those two would not move the needle at all for Rasmus imo.

I respect your opinion on these things, but wouldn't Nansi be comparable to Trevor Hoskin?

Hopefully we can acquire more exciting pieces than that

Well, I’m not sure I would take either player as a main focal point of any trade involving Andersson, but both would be fantastic add-ons.

Nansi is a 6’3” center who is going through a nasty slump right now (only 3 points in last 11) but he was one of the OHL’s top scorers before that, with 34 points in 23 games. As it stands, he is at 37 points in 34 games. He was one of the youngest players taken in last year’s draft, with a September 10th birthday, and is very physically raw. Boots need work, but they will improve as he gets stronger. He’s really skilled and smart.

Hopkins reminds me of Matt Lombardi- not physical, but very fast.

What would everyone think of a leafs trade like this:

To Toronto:
Andersson (50% retained)

To Calgary:
Danford
Cowen
2028 1st (unprotected)
2029 1st (top 3 protected)

Andersson ends up signing an extension with Toronto so it’s an extended Andersson for a lot of magic beans… most of which won’t bear fruit for 5+ years from now. I think the Leafs are gong to see a big drop off with or without Andersson in the next few years so those picks could be really valuable. With the wild card being McDavid… he will be a UFA in 2028 so he might rest the leafs back to being a playoff team at that point if he ends up signing there.

I would do it but the Leafs wouldn't. That's a bit much.

Leafs are a bad trade partner. Sweet talk San Jose or Anaheim.

We're not getting 2 basically unprotected firsts, and Cowan, for Andersson, even 50% retained. Drop the 29 first, and make the 28 top-10 protected, and I think it's reasonable.

But forget Danford, Sandman talked me into Nansi

I want that package, but Sandman also turned me into a Hopkins fan. Maybe fan of Hopkins isn't quite right.. I would love a day of listening to Abbot and Hrudey screw up the Hoskin Hopkins names continuously.

Throw in Cooley and a 4th and a 5th so Brad can explain how he had the same number of picks and you probably have a deal.

Out of thanks, but thanks for the vote of confidence guys!

Hopkins plays for the Kingston Frontenacs, so he's struggling with the same issues that Jacob Battaglia is currently going through. Hopkins leads the team in scoring though, with 25 points in 28 games, while Batts is at 23 points in 31 games.

I doubt we can squeeze that much out of the Leafs, but I do it even if 2028 is top 3 protected as well. The further out in the future, the older and worse the Leafs will be, so those picks have a high potential to be really high picks.

Hopkins is a good hockey player. It is strange that he and Battaglia cannot put up points though, they play on the same line. Last year Pinelli lit it up on the 67’s and he and Foster were their only good forwards. Now Pinelli is almost a PPG player in the AHL.

A little disconcerting that Battalgia and Hopkins cannot find a way to individually still put up good numbers.
