A useless, flighty topic to match the useless, flighty lockout, a time killer for the off-topic board . . . .

In the year 2,100, what would you expect to be the advances, declines humanity might see by that time?

What do you think the future holds?

I expect in 2100 that young men will still drive down main street in small towns in the Vettes of the day, windows down, what passes for music at the time blaring, hoping to attract the females of the species.

Or will it be the other way around?

Will Libertarians rule the world? Is that even possible?

Will mankind have identified habitable worlds in other solar systems by then? And what would mankind do about it?

Will mankind still be around?

Will God in his/her various machinations still be around in the minds of men/women?

Answers?

I think I'll go eat a tuna sandwich now.

In 2100, the poles would of already shifted greatly and the earths population will roughly be 5 million or so.

And hopefully we will already have several fully independent - self sufficient colonies on Mars by then.

I expect genetic engineering and nanotechnology will lead to significant changes to humans. Taken to an extreme, you could end up with much less variety among individuals as the means to become whatever the society considers ideal will be readily available.

Men will still like breasts.

Women will still like men with resources.

All humanity will look back and curse us for totally f***ing up the environment for them.

There will have been 9 labour stoppages in the NHL

A big, juicy steak will still be delicious

Africa will be new new middle east

The television will be considered obsolete, radio won't be

Gay marriage - not just legal, but mandatory. And polygamy and beastiality are legal too. The slippery slope people were right all along!!!

Cowperson's final post total will be an internet legend - and no one comes close to the eventual near 700,000 count on CalgaryPuck.com.

Styles and technology will change, but the basic way of life we have will still be the same.

A common currency world wide

There's still ice on the polar ice caps. Global warming is proven false. And strict environment standards allow the environment to begin ressurecting itself to being ok.

O.K. interesting topic and possibly a little grim

- Due to a lack of habitable planets within a lifetime of travel, the 3 major nations of the world engage in a war with the under developed nations of the world to secure living space for thier citizens. Sadly the under developed nations in a suicidle gesture poison thier own lands condeming thier own citizens to starvation disease and death.

- Due to a severe lack of fossile fuels, private transportation is restricted to the wealthy

- Due to severe overcrowding, the entire planet under UN mandate 10001 is forced to adopt China's population control measures.

- Earth population is reduced to 3 billion due to the war, but earths habitable lands is cut down to less then half of its 21st century high

- Mankind continues to fling probes into space in a struggle to find other planets to inhabit, but lack the fast engine technology required to keep people there.

- The Moon begins the first self sufficient off world penal colony reminding many of the struggles of early australia.

- Captain Crunch the III begins a reign of Terror as Canada becomes a world military superpower. He promptly selects individual houses owned by his enemy for entertaining artillary barrages.

I still don't have my rocket car

Cures for cancer, and genetic medicine are restricted to the top 100 wealthiest families on the globe

The NHLPA vows that thier resolve is strong as they carry out a desparate terrorist strike on the NHL offices in the hopes of finding a time machine which will allow them to send a operative into the past to kill Gary Bettman and insert Wayne Gretzky as the NHL President, a weaker president.

By the year 3000 earth is a used up husk, and humanity is no more then a few thousand frightened primatives

Good one Mr Cow....heres a few progostications...

World politics will shift to a system that includes all countries...a world without borders so to speak. We will live in a regions as opposed to countries. English will be the language of choice for all people.

Religions will be substantailly changed to systems of positive thinking. The worlds churches will be turned into historical museums showing what was once a colossal waste of money. The bank accounts of the Catholic church is used to pay off the debt of many of the third world countries.

Children will be raised/groomed by the state. Parents will receive monthly reports on their childrens behaviour and education.

Cigarettes and alcohol are illegal. Humans use and sell them underground.

The average work week is 10 hours. Computers and robots do most of the work. Humans are hired by the government simply to assure that the mechanical equipment continues to run and for maintenance.

Food and medicine is provided by the state. Money as we know it is extinct. People are given credits for needs.

I'm afraid the vast distance of space, even Mars would mean there probably won't be any colonies anywhere just yet, save perhaps the moon. Maybe there might be projects up there, or landings from various governments or corporations, but there won't be anyone living up there for long periods of time, never mind colonizing.

I also doubt religion would change so much in 100 years. If the past 10-20 has shown us anything it's getting MORE fundamentalist from all sides. From evangelical or 'born-again' Christians, to radical Islamists, it's going to be a LONG time, if ever, that people just settle down and actually DO what there gods preach instead of killing or converting those that don't agree with them.

The environment will be more of a mess, but I don't see it being a critical problem like a few people do. We will have had to learn how to conserve and reuse, and will be doing it with at least SOME effectiveness.

The big things I worry about are overpopulation and war. Resources will be lower than before, as will places to live. I think standard of living will go down all over the world and the world poor will increase dramatically, but the rich will have the money and the power (and technology?) to keep the poor under their bootheel.

Perhaps we might start terraforming here on Earth, or maybe global warming might make Canada really attractive to live in as our south becomes tropical and our north becomes temperate. Or maybe by then we will be so tied to the U.S. that we have pretty much given up our soverignty to them anyway?

There's always the ice age that is supposed ot be coming though, and the reversal of the poles that will probably cause a wek or two of chaos...

The truth is that things change so fast nowadays that it's impossible to predict 100 years ahead. Maybe in the dark ages when nothing at all changed for 400 years... But in our day when things move at the speed they do, our knowledge as a species is growing at an exponetial level, outpacing our wisdom at a scary pace, anything could happen.

What I do think might happen is that one charasmatic visionary could change the world. Could be a Hitler type, could be a Martin Luther King type. But I do see a revolution of some sort happening that will have global consquences. Especially if people are more poor, frustrated and unfilfilled than ever before.

LA will be a warzone. Criminals will be cyrogenically frozen and given subliminal messages while they are frozen to rehab them and give them some useful skills, such as knitting. Taco Bell will win the restaurant wars, and will be the only restaurant. TP will be eliminated, replaced by 3 seashells, and people will no longer eat meat. It will only be sold under the ground by a group of rebels who believe in freedom to smoke and eat and drink what they want. Sex is a thing of the past; it is all done virtually, there is no longer any fluid transfers between citizens... Eventually Sly will beat the living hell out of Wesley, and everyone will be happy. :P

Everyone will have computer chips installed in their brains. This way, instead of having to go to school/post secondary, everyone will just download the courses onto their brain chip. The unintelligent people will soon be no more.
