To balance out the serious human interest stories, here's some very positively toned weapons interest stories.

Ukraine shot down a Russian helicopter with a robot packing a MANPAD.

Brand new British drone-repellant going to Ukraine.

France is testing this new drone interceptor in Ukraine

And Sweden is sending this brand new air defense gun system

Camo technology is racing to keep up with sensor development, and is getting pretty scifi

Ukrainian remote operated truck, at times packing a .50 cal

European countries also regularly donate stuff without announcing it, here's news about British howitzers

Here's Italian tank destroyers

Greece actually announced its sending their old M110s

And last, just for fun, a tier ranking of the tanks fighting in Ukraine

I know Injust posted a whole bunch of these, but this new one is still pretty notable.

In short, Sniper laser targeting system. While laser guided rockets have plenty of other uses, one really significant one is a massive increase in drone interception potential.

For context: the current record for drones intercepted in Ukraine in one sortie is I believe six, four by missiles and two by gun when the missiles ran out.

A single laser guided rocket pod holds 7 rockets, and one F-16 can theoretically carry 6 pods. Those rockets also only cost about 27k per shot. This is about the same or less than the cost of a Shaheed drone, and a massive improvement from using for example AIM-missiles that cost about 400k per.

This has the potential to make F-16:s much more relevant in the fight against Russian drone swarm attacks.

Also worth mentioning:

Gasoline prices in Russia have now surpassed those in the US.

(Actual price, not relative.)

There is an old saying.

"Everybody wants to be infantry until it is time to do infantry $hit"

it is getting harder & harder

Can't win a war without infantry.

This is also a good video

Today my wife's friend in Kyiv said the situation is getting pretty bad with the power grid. The city only gets 5 hours of power most days; between the hours of 3am-5am, and 3 random hours after that. As well she also mentioned the cost to purchase food and supplies has gone up substantially over the past few months. Could be related to storage costs requiring power and whatnot. Luckily the city isn't that super cold yet.

yup

For the first time in its history, Ukraine has sunk a Russian submarine with Sub Sea Baby underwater drones in Novorossiysk. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) conducted a unique naval special operation in the port of Novorossiysk. The Sub Sea Baby underwater drones struck a Russian Kilo-class submarine, causing severe damage and disabling it.

The Marder

The Argies were gifted those when we were in Yugo.

We drove around our AO in old M113s while the Argies' Marders sat in their location, barely moving.

Didn't seem fair.

Zelenskyy: The Russians always blame others and always try to explain their wars through someone else’s actions. As if the reason for their aggression is never in Moscow but always in their neighbour's.

Zelenskyy: Putin publicly lied, claiming that Russian forces had already taken Kupiansk. So I went to Kupiansk to show the world that Putin is lying.

Zelenskyy: I will continue to destroy every Russian lie on the frontline and around the world.

Zelenskyy: Putin does not believe in people; he believes only in power and in money. He spends around 40,000 soldiers’ lives on the front every month. Not wounded, 40,000 each month killed.

Zelenskyy: Russians don’t count their dead, but they do count every dollar and every euro they lose.

Zelenskyy: During this war, there is hardly a crime against humanity that Russia has not committed.

Russia has deployed 360,000 troops along NATO's borders, a German politician stated. Defense expert and member of the Bundestag, Kiesewetter, stated on NTV that Europe is already facing a critical threat of war with Russia: "Russia has deployed two army corps in Belarus, or approximately 360,000 combat-ready soldiers," capable of striking NATO countries.

Britain has announced a major air‑defense support package for Ukraine, Sky News reports. UK will invest £600 million to boost Ukraine’s ability to shoot down Russian drones this winter. Defence Secretary John Healey said Kyiv will receive air‑defense systems, missiles and automated anti‑drone turrets.

I have always believed NATO would/can beat the Warsaw Pact or in this case Russia in a war.

The concerning point is China's support.

China concerns me.

Russia is a paper bear.

I'm pretty confident that Poland on it's own could take care of the Western portion of Russia pretty quickly.

Which is probably why Trump is working for Putin to pull Poland away from the EU.

How anyone can pretend Trump is an ally of the Western World at this point is beyond understanding.

I feel China is currently too smart to get dragged into a big war. Of course that might change if somewhere down the line Xi either wants to leave a bigger mark in history (that typical stupid crap men tend to get into when they get old), or if there's a major internal crisis they need a distraction from.

Other than that, I would imagine that one big lesson China is taking away from this war is just how enormous the economical and political risks are.

Plus they have a really good thing going now, being the only sane superpower and the only superpower not actively trying to bankrupt itself.

Yeah, if anything a NATO-Russia war that China can completely avoid being involved in is probably in it's best interest, as it would be in America's position post WWII where it gets to come in and "invest" in the rebuilding, being welcomed instead of seen as an invader.
