Gut check time is coming for Connie's brain trust and his messaging with other GMs.

Coleman's camp and flames org have had active conversations about the timing of a deal IF one was to happen. Its believed the flames are open to respecting this timeline. Yes it's business but how you treat people is a very important thing to the flames organization and reputation amongst the PA goes a long way in future recruiting.

No news on my end for Kadri.

Morgan Frost's name is out there gaining traction but not sure the flames go there yet FWIW.
I hope they keep Frost and trade the other 3.

Well the Flames have 3 of the the top 4 or 5 assets on the market so I sure hope that the price is high. Vancouver has nothing that compares unless Hughes is on the market, Nashville has really nothing that compares and unless St Louis is moving their younger players they don’t either. Don’t think there are any other teams that are selling.

I guess if you trade Frost for enough, you can keep kadri for the rest of the year at least. You might need to.

Definitely way more interest in Kadri than Frost.
Calgary could move Kadri tonight if they made him available and started bidding teams against each other.

I fully expect at least 2 of 3 being moved and like a 60-70% chance of the last one going too.

I would trade Frost if the return is fair. Because I think he is not part of future team core for me. My hope is Zary become our 2b/3a centre for us.

We are not getting nearly the return for Frost that we are Kadri. And Kadri going helps our draft position where Frost leaving really doesn't move the needle.

Kadri is 35, Frost is 26.

Kadri makes way more sense.

If they are willing to move him. Why delay signaling he is available? There are unknowns with delaying. He already limped off to dressing room once this week!

Price even higher in January for a bidding war? Kadri says not sure yet if he will waive NTC for remaining teams on his list?

Don't get the trade psychology here but trust in Conroy to time it right.

Seems like a long shot but I wonder if there’s any teams out there looking to make a more before the double retention window closes. Believe that’s the end of the month.

they should absolutely be trading Kadri if they can get good value for him now.

Other than the TDL I don't think there's a time his value is higher than this year. He will only decline after this year. This is like textbook def'n of selling at a high.

We're in one of the three potentially "busy" windows this season.
- Holiday roster freeze starts in 2 weeks, Dec 20
- Next pressure point after that is the Feb 6 roster freeze, assuming there's a rink to go play in
- And when that ends on Feb 25, you've got 9 days until the trade deadline

Not much longer to wait before we start seeing some action.

Can’t imagine a scenario where they trade both Kadri and Frost in season unless you get some kind of center in return.

It is such a no brainer to trade Kadri this season while his value is high. He won't have the same value in a couple years, he just won't.

Add in the fact that he is actively hurting our 1st round draft position being on the team and I am sure Conroy is trying to get something done ASAP.

Can’t wait till we get to talk about what these guys WERE traded for instead of WHEN and who MIGHT get traded for.

There are some pretty fit ushers and concession kids at the Dome. I'm no scout, but I could certainly see a few of them filling in at C.

And if they work out, we could flip them for picks and maybe a B grade janitor prospect from one of the other teams.

So curious as to which teams he would be willing to extend with. Hopefully it is a better list than the Stars and VGK. Ideally one of the teams would be out east and have better trade chips to work with... but if those are the teams then "Anyone but vegas" kicks in and you to make a deal with the Stars.

At that point the trade value would turn into:
Sign & trade to one of two teams.
Trade to other teams and let them work to extend him with the time they "buy" to negotiate.

Never say "pure rental" from a selling perspective.

By all the conversations I've had a lot of teams would like to get things done before Feb 6. The Olympic year calendar has made teams that want to get something done to get it done before so players can adjust and still have their vacations. It will be a mad sprint post Olympics after a marathon to get to the break.

Pro scouting is up and this is a key indicator that teams are starting to focus in ahead of time. There is a plethora who followed the flames through the south east tour, unsure if this just planned by other orgs. Will be key to see which teams register for the month for December in Calgary. I know Montreal, Columbus and Washington followed almost the entire road trip outside of Nashville.

Dallas and Utah both had folks here for the wild game, I suspect this was for pre scout on Utah's end...

Honestly for most representatives I have spoken to the Tax advantage states are only ones players are really considering to "take less" (I don't have any info on the list of teams for Ras outside of that its small and I'm making assumptions based of conversations). It sucks for the rest of the league but the league has failed to address it because a lot of money for the league has funneled through those states in the last decade.

If you read carefully I said if they "get enough" for Frost. And in the same breath as you say Kadri worth more you note that Frost is almost 10 years younger. It's apples and oranges.

I could forsee a scenario where they get two earlier 2nds and prospesct for Frost now and Kadri next season (and his decline is sure not evident yet).

Right. Hence why I said if they move Frost they probably keep Kadri for the rest of the season.

It seems like such an easy fix to make the cap subject to tax differences. A skilled accountant could do it. The cap was intended to level the field for cities after all.

Ya, you can't trade both. Someone has to play games this season and making Zary and Backlund your two top centers with Beecher, Kirkland, and Kerins behind them is pretty reckless. It would hurt both the Flames and the Wranglers.

Frost - Backlund - Zary - Beecher

That looks like a more reasonable depth chart that is likely still going to keep Team Tank happy with the results.

Also, Frost might be the guy who takes advantage of a bigger role, which would increase his value going into next season where he either needs to sign an extension or get traded.

Retention slots is another reason to not trade Frost now. We get 3 slots per year. This year we already have Markstrom in one, Andersson potentially in a second, and then Coleman or Kadri could use the third.

Next year, Markstrom and Andersson would be clear and Coleman/Kadri would remain meaning we would have 2 retention slots to use on Frost and either of Coleman or Kadri if they are not traded this season.

If Conroy has permission to maximize value with retention slots then paying attention to their usage is important. (I would avoid retaining on Kadri unless the return is amazing)
