Yeah. because as long as we're better than that steaming pile of ####, it's OK.

Not really, which is why it's such a super weird thing to lie about.

My hopes are higher than absolute rock bottom, but I guess it is true that this organization has been operating under the pretense of "at least we are better than Edmonton" for 20 years now.

I wonder how many times Buffalo Sabres fans have told themselves that over the years.

All of this fear around being Buffalo, but we already are Buffalo - and Conroy seems to be the one at the core of it digging us out of that misery.

We're one more Sean Monahan mis-handling (both in the trade, and in how we handled his health) away from it being undeniable in my eyes - but I do believe Conroy is the right guy, but I'm here all day for the open lambasting of the ownership/some of the other Sr. Managers including the president of hockey operations.

At times it feels like the organization feels they can manage the messaging around the team, when fans and the media world at large are well beyond that being possible in today's landscape. Transparency with fans, when it doesn't put them at a strategic disadvantage (trade negotiations etc.) should be a given...but it doesn't seem like it is here.

The biggest concern that I have isn't that the Flames are building to win now. Its that refusing to pick a lane has limited their options to such a degree that they have been inactive.

Conroy deserves credit for not spending cap and assets to try and win short term. But allowing last years success to dictate a direction of no direction is not in the long term interest of this hockey team. It is certainly not an active and intentional rebuild.

Actually, I disagree with this. The Flames have been focused on acquiring younger players and assets, which they have continued to do to the present. To assert that they have done nearly nothing is misleading. Acquiring assets and young talent is by definition rebuilding.

Still don't understand why the Monahan trade is held as an example of some sort of horrible trade. They traded a 1st to sign Kadri, who has been their best forward, and if traded likely gets a 1st+ back.

What's the issue here?

The health thing is also a nothing thing. Dude can't stay healthy. That has continued.
Again what's the issue here?

We really cannot evaluate that trade until we see what trading Kadri results in. Once we have those receipts, the deal can actually be evaluated fairly.

Why are you taking Francis or Seravalli as gospel? Maybe they just got it wrong. Like all the confusion about Kadri's contract.

This is like the Rock lying about never going to In and Out Burger before lol. No one cares, so it's such a needless thing to lie about and self own yourself.

Considering Francis's connections with ownership and the fact that he just had a big interview with Maloney, it seems unlikely he would speak this way if he wasn't certain.

Even Conroy looked uncomfortable speaking to the idea that these deals were done before the season started.

It was definitely some damage control from the organization. After the backlash from media and fans.

It's a dumb, pointless lie from an organization that is having a bit of a tough time building goodwill within its own fanbase. I guess in the broadest sense it doesn't really matter, but at the same time it's the kind of thing that just gets under people's skin. And in another sense that matters a great deal. Makes the org come across as out of touch with reality.

I think it is also a nothing burger. The high majority of NHL team don't even disclose any info publicly on hockey ops contracts. For some reason it has become a huge thing here with Conroy and before with Treliving.

Barbara Streisand rule. This wouldn't have been an issue if they didn't bring attention to it by lying. Now that they apparently have, people are scrutinizing the decision and trying to read things into it all.

A team never paid the same price as the Flames did to make that move. It is a combination of terrible management and pro scouting to think that somehow swapping Monahan, Tkachuk, and Gaudreau with Huberdeau, Kadri, Weegar was worth dumping a 1st and that this team was going to contend especially after being inconsistent year after year for a decade.

The Leafs paid a 1st to dump Marleau to a team that had to buy him out and take the full cap hit for that season because he signed the contract after 35. No team got bent over worse than the flames in 2022 and they are going to rival their young guns playoff drought because of it.

Seravelli is as much a Flames insider as I am. He’s proven time again that he knows literally nothing about the organisation and presents it as fact to rile up engagement for his own content.

You are evaluating the entire strategy
I am speaking about that one move
If they end up trading him for a first how can it be so awful?
