You have a weird definition of “working” for someone who defends the Flames in 100 posts a day. Clearly what we are doing isn’t working and hasn’t for 35 years then if winning the cup is the only measure of “working”
And yet you constantly bring up the Carolina model who has 1 win past round 2 in two decades….
|
Don’t think I bring up the Carolina model that much given that they are actively in a tear it down to the studs rebuild and are much closer to a Chicago model rebuild.

Posts like this are why some of us get so worked up. Because of this attitude by some posters that cheering for wins (when we already have no shot at playoffs) makes you a better fan.
|
You’ll enjoy it I’m sure! Just not for the same reasons others will enjoy it. And again, it has nothing to do with being a better or worse fan. These are qualifications you guys are making up.
You’re just missing out and will inevitably enjoy the ultimate prize less than those who didn’t miss out on the journey. It’s your loss. But that’s OK too. If it’s your decision to miss out on the highs and lows of this period in time why are you mad at people who aren’t?

Winning a game when you sit in 31st and have no hope of contending for a championship this year doesn't feel good to me.
Nothing is guaranteed but I want them to have the best shot at winning a cup, and for that season that means losing games.
Last season when they were in a playoff spot it meant winning games and it made no sense for the people cheering for losses to be cheering for losses then, they were already too far away from the bottom for it to matter.
But this year it's different. They are in the bottom, losing more keeps them there, and to me that is the "good" outcome.
|
A win is a fun thing in the moment. I don't see how that can be denied. You don't feel the least bit happy for the players and the fans who got to see the team win (if it's at home). The guys who scored? The goalie who player well enough to get a W? You are not happy the rival team lost, especially if they are dirty?

Couldn’t agree more. Suspect it’s driving away participants one post at a time. Beyond annoying.
Like an earlier poster said, my desire to participate here is waning due to the constant posting of virtually identical material twenty times a day by the same poster.
Yes, there’s an IGNORE function (last used by me for Paulie). But this poster gets quoted so often, it’s almost impossible to avoid the narcissism and pessimism presented.
Yes, we all understand that a high draft pick MIGHT be a wonderful thing. We don’t need to hear it constantly, every thread.

I cheer for wins because winning feels good, and I watch sports to have fun and enjoy myself. Personally, if I was actively cheering for losses I wouldn't see much of a point in watching, and even when this team stinks and plays low-event hockey I'm always going to want to watch.
I genuinely don't care if there's fans cheering for losses, and I don't judge their fandom because of that, I understand what they want for this team. Just like how I assume those fans acknowledge that ppl like myself are also aware this team needs continue rebuilding and I'd love to see us get a top 3 pick. But yeah, I don't see the point of cheering against them on a nightly basis, they can't hear me through the television anyways..
If I were to judge anything it would be the drafting system itself, as I think when you have like a quarter of the leagues fanbases cheering for a tank each season it kind of makes things feel a little backwards IMO.
Just seems silly we're still recycling this debate during every GDT, this is a message board full of sports nerds for cryin' out loud, there's gotta be something more interesting like advanced stats or random AHLers we can bicker about!

I cheer for wins and pray for bad bounces and egregious referee calls that go against the Flames.

I cheer for the Flames to win, always have; don't know any other way. Does that have any implication on what happens in the game? No not at all. I still think this team is not good enough to get out of the bottom 5 and that's fine.

Wishful thinking. That only happens when the Flames are good!

I cheer for win every game, when they do win, I go to bed happy, it's nice to go to bed happy. And when they lose, I'm sad for one night, I don't get upset. One thing I can never do is cheer for loses. If I cheer for loses, I might as well not watch any game and wait till draft lottery and be really pissed if the team doesn't win it.

Preach it! This is what I tell my wife every time she's telling me not to be pissed about a Flames/Jays loss.....it's so I can go nuts when they win it all!
