On Sunday afternoon, the Calgary Flames headed to Raleigh, North Carolina to play their fourth game of their five game road trip when they visited the Carolina Hurricanes. The Flames were on their heels for a good chunk of the game, but they got enough big saves and smart defensive plays to hang around against a strong Hurricanes squad.

Flames lose and they are drafting #1. Win, and they are 2 points out of teams drafting #8, although the Flames have played more games than most teams.

If you look at the bottom of the standings, all teams except the Foames have a losing record in their last 10. Another 10 game stretch of the Flames like the last 10 will likely knock them out of the bottom 5, as teams at the bottom generally lose quite a bit.

It's definitely stop time.

Hate to break it to you: players in the NHL don't play to lose. No matter what team, no matter what condition, no matter anything. They play to win. They have that gene.

Trap game. Last game on the road trip, against an opponent below them in the standings.

On the other hand, this is the ONLY team below them, and if they lose, then Nashville will tie them in the standings with games in hand.

Should be a pretty good battle tonight. There isn't a player in the lineup that wants to be on the last place team, so I imagine both teams play hard tonight. That's my guess anyway. I am betting that the Canucks lose tonight (they are in Colorado tonight), so if the Flames win, they jump a team in the standings.

I have a feeling that this will be like the Sabres and Sharks games, where we just stifle the Preds and they show next to nothing. I'm not saying that's what I necessarily want to happen, but how I think it will go.

I grew up in the 90s going to games with my dad, that was the Young Gunz era. I cheered for them in those days, I’m gonna cheer for them now.

This team sucks right now, but I can never cheer for them to lose. I will never be happy/excited when the Calgary Flames lose

A good draft pick is a consolation for trying and failing.

It’s not a reward for failing on purpose.
