Lol, so it was (apparently for roaches rather than rats, for what that's worth). But if anything that just makes the Market experience more authentic!

I will never, ever, ever set foot in that place again. That was the most disgusting place I have ever eaten.

Look...its a neat place, it has that 70s 'Swinger' vibe even though the phones have been removed...but the entire building is coated...I mean that literally, it is coated in a film of grease.

Everything. Your table. Your seats. Your cutlery. The walls. The floors. You dont want to touch any surfaces...oh but you will!

And why will you? Because restaurant fondue is essentially taking your life in your hands to begin with at the best of times...fondue at the Grizzly House is like combining food poisoning with Russian Roulette and...if you have to go to the bathroom, which you more than likely will if you go the fondue route....

Remember...I said 'every surface is coated in grease.' Think about that when your stomach starts rumbling and you're staring at that toilet...because that is guaranteed to be the worst, most uncomfortable restaurant gastrointestinal emergency you will ever encounter. Like a real 'Sophie's Choice.'

*shudder*

I have a friend who took his girlfriend to the Grizzly House for dinner. She had the idea that he was going to propose, so she was downing the wine like it was water. Soon her mind was getting cloudy and she began undercooking the skewers of meat until the inevitable evacuation process began. It was unpleasant for everyone involved, and no, there was no proposal that night (although they have been married for about 35 years now). Good times.

Foxtrot at Spruce Meadows was an ok experience the other evening. Food is decent. Atmosphere is sort of fine dining mixed with an open kitchen concept. Reasonably priced. I wouldn't rave about it but we enjoyed ourselves.

Grizzly house is named grizzly for a reason. Fondue is overrated. Was neat as a kid. We went to some place nearby something and ivy. Why are we eating like this? Hot pot would be way better.

I did go to cassis last night. 4th time in the last month. I mostly hate fish but got the halibut cheeks. Fata me was that good. I’m best buds with the owner now complete with hugs when I leave.

You have posted you've been at Cassis literally 2 or 3 different times when I was at the bar as well the same night with a friend or seeing a few friends that work there.

If you happen to go next time and see a guy with lot's of hair, drinking wine, shout out Curves or Calgary Flames and it could be me!

Gil is a good host and it's a good restaurant

What are you, new here? The code is: "The Sky is Blue."

The Response is..."The C is Red."

Then you have to do the handshake, the leg over the hands is the really tricky part.

What about hiring a private chef in someone’s house for the night? Or is the restaurant element a must have?

One of the things I do with my friends maybe twice a year ish is everyone chips in and we have a sushi/sashimi night where someone hosts and we all make dinner together. It is pricey given the need for sushi-grade seafood, but it's not as hard as you think it is even though the pieces may not look as nice as what you get in a restaurant from a chef who knows what they're doing! A bit more casual, but it's fun and tasty.

Anyone into African food, specifically Nigerian? Roots & Pepper is good.

We went Brass Wok tonight. Unreal. 1 chili was too much for our white sensibilities. I just sharted. One of them surprise ones that sneaks up. I don’t think it’s related.

I’m now doing laundry on sanitary mode. Clearly not related. Also had a nice shower.

Alternatively you could host a dinner at home and hire a chef to come to your house and do a private dinner feast for you. Just getting conversation going for you. Maybe ask ChatGPT for help?
Neat suggestions but my squad is more casual. We've done some nicer places with this dinner thing over the years, but the biggest hits seem to be the places that are more laid back. It'd also be a bit out of the norm for our group to get a chef in. I've considered bringing a food truck to a party before, but I think it would come off as a bit showy and might end up making people feel awkward or like they had to reciprocate something so spendy. For that reason part of the criteria for this is it can't be super expensive as not everyone who participates in this group would feel comfortable spending a ton on a night out.

Loved the first street idea until the roaches shut down was mentioned. Eww. That's too bad because we used to party on first street all the time, so that one would have hit right in several ways.

Soundroom is great. We actually go there a fair amount, but haven't been since summer, so maybe hitting that after supper is a good idea.

Can't do sushi because I fkn hate fish.

Thanks, guys!

We enjoyed the Rodizio at Pampa if you’re looking for something different and were already entertaining the idea of bbq.

There’s some sushi places that will do beef sushi, could be a nice way to add it to the rotation

Calling other tables could be fun:
