They're lousy parks anyways.

It makes sense when tourism is so strong that they're getting overcrowded. Not so much when numbers are already tanking and need a boost.

The national park numbers are not tanking though. Maybe 2025 saw a slight drop but the numbers haven't been released. 2024 saw record numbers in the parks and I can attest to how packed and crowded they are and how difficult it is to book a visit (camping, lodging, hiking permits) as we went down to four parks in the summer of 2024.

Seriously, why? Why even bother replying with this?

1. 2024 numbers are irrelevant given what happened in January 2025.
2. The numbers haven't been released yet you're making an affirmative statement that directly contradicts the reports of the tourism industry in America (which is what I'm going off of), people who would know much better than you or me what's been going on this year.

Haha, you're going to call out my affirmative statement while you can't back up your affirmative statement indicating that national park visits are tanking (because the numbers aren't out yet.)

Well there are some numbers for 2025 available. Yellowstone NP for 2025 through July has still seen an increase in visitation over 2024, which was close to a record year for the park. So your statement of tanking numbers as it relates to Yellowstone NP is definitely incorrect thus far.

An increase in visitation would be expected just based on population growth. It doesn't mention foreign tourists specifically, which is kind of the more relevant factor since they would be the ones further deterred by the fee increase.

I would be surprised if foreign tourism to national parks has increased in 2025, but anything's possible.

Are you ready to remove your foot from your mouth, or do you enjoy the taste of being a dumb-ass?

I said U.S. tourism is down. It is.

Good one. Your comment regarding tourism being down was in relation to a post talking about national parks in Canada and was part of the larger discussion surrounding entrance cost to US National Parks. Your comment was very obviously related to NP numbers.

The whole argument is kind of mute. It is well documented that Trump has decimated US tourism. Even if national parks haven't borne the brunt of that for now, the last thing the tourism industry as a whole needs is yet another own goal. Trumps statement was basically akin to saying "if your not mad enough to stay away yet, why not try this out too".

It's absolutely a fair statement to say Trump is the worst thing for tourism since the trumpian plague.

Just trump helping tourism... one totally normal president enjoying Thanksgiving...

Trump: “I will permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries … denaturalize migrants who undermine domestic tranquility, and deport any Foreign National who is a public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western Civilization.“

When I talk about the "misery porn" threads on this site, that's one of the ones I'm talking about.
