Care to finish the story? How close did they get to winning the Stanley cup?

That's a ####ty way to debate a topic.
Agree or disagree with his points. Don't try to paint him with a label to disregard his opinions on the whole.

I just used the Forbes number 1.83B. It went up 15% last year. New building will give it another lift when finished, and it takes a year or two to do a deal like this, so I think it’s fine. Even if not:
- Murray doesn’t want to sell
- It’s an appreciating asset
- Not even a whisper of an interested party
- New doesn’t automatically mean better
Anyways, while it’s a good discussion I think some people are naive to think any sort of fan pressure will get him to sell it. His other companies are widely disliked, they still thrive and he keeps running them the way he wants.
We either accept it or support another team.

You may not like the words that were used but the message is accurate.

Not with Scotia Place they wouldn’t have to wait 10 years. Without it they almost certainly would be unable to get a team here without a new building which would be risky. Quebec built a nice rink and still no team. They regret going to Atlanta but that is not stopping us from hearing they might get a third team. I don’t think they regret going back to Winnipeg?

You argue against yourself here. And Winnipeg is not a moneymaker. It still has low attendance (partly because they built an undersized arena and partly because there's no business community sales).
I just don't think a sale of a Canadian team is that attractive, arena or no. It doesn't make enough money.

LOL, I don't particularly like the owners. I think they are short sighted and they were greedy in the arena deal (and put Gondek a really bad spot too). I think they gouge on prices and made dumb hires in the past.
I doubt they are different than many other owners though.

It's tough to justify the marketing expense of tickets (much less a suite). Unless you are in Edmonton. There's nothing else to do anyway.

No it's not.
What's with this site these days?
You can disagree with a person 100%. You don't need to disparage his side of the argument by claiming he is kissing someone's ass.
He just may think differently than you.
If you think he's biased/compromised then it should be easy to beat up the argument and facts.
Lets be better people.

Especially guys who grew up middle class. Hard to break those habits. Plus Edwards made a lot of his money in the distressed asset aquisition business and the model for those purchases is to come in and clean things up from a cost side (rightly or wrongly). FWIW he doesn't seem to flip assets like a vulture fund - he does hang on to them.

It's quite funny. No one ever says "you are against the Flames no matter what they do", but there's certainly some posters who never seem happy even when the team is going the direction they want.
I see ownership as being pretty much the same as most owners. More hands on than fans would like, but not Harold Ballard level. Interested in taking advantage for $$ but not Katz level.
Hey but maybe I'm just learning disabled or something.

It’s actually totally ok and should be encouraged to let people know what you think of them in a positive or negative light. When you have multiple people telling you that you come across as an ass kisser maybe (with some self awareness) you could look inward and say “hmmm maybe I am, I should work on that”.
You can’t beat up on someone with facts when the person is fundamentally flawed. Like trying to explain how Knies is better than Kadri because (at the time) his point production was doubling Kadri. This point was dismissed because “points are a counting stat” lol. You can’t use facts against stupidity.

I told you I was done with you, yet you keep trying to engage (and in a misleading way). I didn't dismiss points because they are a counting stat. I said you were relying solely on a counting stat and ignoring other factors and stats. Maybe you should direct some awareness towards yourself and your honesty.
Don't bother answering - I won't engage again.

Your only counterpoint was that Kadri had a good season on a different team 4 years ago. It’s definitely a point, a really poorly thought out one, but I’m proud of you for doing your best.

That was for 90% of the team. Sale price was 1.045 Billion for the Sens. Still may mean that it is more likely to be around 1 billion but probably more because Ottawa may never get a new arena and the Flames are getting one. Also given that I don't think Melnyk's kids wanted to own the team anymore it may have been sold slightly under value. I think they just wanted the money.

Doesn't seem to be the case in Florida, Miami, Dallas, Colorado, Vegas where the owners let their GM's make the hockey decisions. It seems to me the most successful organizations are the ones where you never hear about the owner getting overly involved. The Flames are heavily micromanaged compared to those organizations and the results speak for themselves.

But you have proven to be a ####ing moron multiple times on this forum, despite this fact I don't think it is helpful to point it out.

Do they let them run the teams without any consultation or do they just align?
The reporting suggests Viola is a very hands on owner - he was heavily involved in coach selection etc. But he and Zito are very much aligned. Same with Gagliardi in Dallas. He made them hire Hitchcock, and his right hand Lites has gone public in commenting on player performance.
Vegas' owner apparently attends all scouting meetings and player evaluations. I doubt he is just there to watch.
The Avalanche owner is hands off - except put his son in as President of the team and he is definitely hands-on.
