the craziest part is that people think that this is the only year we are going to finish in the bottom five.
if we're honest we're a bottom five team for 2-5 more years.

Just saying it's pretty much the meat of every single topic these days, so a post game win over a rival maybe isn't looking for people upset that they won?
Just me maybe.

Hmm? Your comment:

Is far less light than my comment...

I haven't commented in this thread, nor any other PGT this year I don't believe, but is a PGT reserved only for those that celebrate the wins? Strange take...
There is genuine concern that this team is going to march their way back up the standings to a 12th-17th pick, yet again. Rival or not, I'd argue most fans prefer losses these days. Perhaps not "most" when it comes to playing the Oilers or Canucks, but still, you can't fault those that want losses even in those games, especially when we've now won 4 out of the last 6 or whatever it is.
Those that are embracing the tank are just as much of fans as those that are cheering for the wins.
|
All I said was it was a strange take, and that there is legitimate reason for people to be upset over wins. You're telling ppl to keep the moaning elsewhere and to enjoy the damn wins.

What could possibly be strange about thinking we talk about tanking and rebuilding in every topic, so why not talk about the game and the win when something good actually happens?
If you think that is strange I feel for you.

Flames win game.
Many don't want flames to win game.
People express that opinion on said game.
-----------------------------
I dunno, seems straightforward to me. A PGT isn't reserved for good vibes only.

No, but it should be reserved for what happened in the game. "X played well. X screwed up this play. It's just tiresome that there are 5 threads at any given time about how losses are good for tanking, except the Flames are losing right or something.

There hasn't been a reservation.
People are posting what they want to as is always the case. Additionally I'm allowed to post that it seems silly, morbid and repetitive to drag the all day every day topic into a PGT after a win.

And gives fans of those teams something to cheer for, and in a way where they are hoping for wins, not losses.
There's been various versions of it written up over the years. I'll try to find one.

There are a few problems with this idea:
Teams aren't mathematically eliminated until very late in the season (most with less than 10 games left in the season, some with less than 5). Last season, San Jose was the first team to earn the "E" next to their name and they had 14 games left when that happened.
It doesn't remove the incentive to lose (or for fans to cheer for losses) for most of the season, just those last few games... and it makes the incentive to lose when you're on the brink of elimination even greater.
It also doesn't really give teams a chance to improve their draft position because the teams who could climb the most are the ones who will have the fewest games to play after elimination.
One area where it could have an impact would be the trade deadline. Non-playoff teams could potentially hang on to players who would normally be traded at the deadline. They could also become buyers and acquire players at the deadline who could help them win down the stretch. The players would hate this and the fans would hate this too.

My satisfaction in this win is muted.
Not like Canucks fans were overconfident coming in–their own team is in shambles.
There are positives. Andersson 3 points (10 points in his last 5 games!), Zary shredding that monkey, and Sharangovich contributing positively.
But looking at the bigger picture, they arent going to sustain a pace that actually gets them into the dance. If they had to fight tooth and nail last year to tie for 8th and lose on a tiebreaker then there's no way in seven hells they're doing it from the depths of this early hole they dug.
Enjoying wins over a rival? Okay ill grant you that.
But every pair of points collected only serves to move them away from a draft pick that can be instrumental in helping them be a team that competes in the future.
Collect enough points and your momentary good vibes only served to move them into B tier territory where they've drafted for decades and keeps them where they've always been: Not bad enough to bottom out but not as good as every one wishes they could be.
If you are of the school of Maloneys and only look as far as this season, one season at a time, pushing fool's hope that something "can always happen"..well maybe thats a nicer place to live and its your prerogative. But many of us have seen this song and dance one too many times in Calgary and want to see a change of pace here, even if its at the cost of bearing some short term pain.
We all want to win, really. But while many of you are reveling in the battles won, the rest of us have our sights on us one day winning the war.
Hopefully we can all get along in spite of that difference.

I love when my sports teams win, and if the Flames can get hot enough to make the playoffs that's fine by me. I voted that I thought they would make the playoffs in the poll on here before the season started.
Very unlikely though after this rough start, and a top 5 pick would be the better option long term because they'd have a better chance of adding a future elite player to the core.
They're not bad enough IMO to finish that low though, not unless they trade some of the key vets, namely Ras, Kadri and Coleman, but that is also unlikely to happen any time soon.
So, here we are. Most likely scenario is no playoffs and a pick in the 10 to 15 range. Same ole, same ole.
They can still build a winner that way, just have to hit some home runs at the draft table.

Every season the 5th worst team wins 30 games.
Do you really want to be unhappy with 30 Flame's victories? Or maybe just assume roughly 30 are coming and enjoy the moment?

I don't see any way they pass 8 teams. They are only even close to a couple.
I also can't think of very many wins where I said Kadri, Andersson and Coleman got the win (last night was maybe the first).
