There is genuine concern that this team is going to march their way back up the standings to a 12th-17th pick, yet again. Rival or not, I'd argue most fans prefer losses these days. Perhaps not "most" when it comes to playing the Oilers or Canucks, but still, you can't fault those that want losses even in those games, especially when we've now won 4 out of the last 6 or whatever it is.

Those that are embracing the tank are just as much of fans as those that are cheering for the wins.

The Coronato float dish to Rasmus on the Frost goal was AWESOME!

Cheering for your team to lose is lame.

I think accusing people of cheering losses is unfair. There is a world of difference between cheering for losses and accepting that your team is going to have to go through the pain of escaping a never ending cycle of purgatory.

It is the way the system is, you don't get rewarded for trying, so losing is a way of ripping the bandage off and getting better.

I want us to win, but am not upset when we lose and can't really criticise those that want us to play the stupid system that rewards losers.

if they dont want teams tanking for good players they should just make it so the 17th place team gets top pick, then 18 gets 2nd 19 gets 3rd etc...then at least teams that are just outside the playoffs get a good player and can get better and maybe make the playoffs . this way every team would at least try. but then i dont know how the worse teams will get better.

I like the concept that as soon as a team is eliminated from playoff contention, they start to generate points that sets their draft position. The most points gained from a non playoff team gets the highest picks. It still favors the worse teams, as they will be eliminated first (though that will be influenced by East/West elements) but gives teams a reason to still play down the stretch to maximize their draft position. And gives fans of those teams something to cheer for, and in a way where they are hoping for wins, not losses.

There's been various versions of it written up over the years. I'll try to find one.

They should fully randomize the order of picks between the non-playoff teams, except give extra odds for a high pick to teams based on how many years they've missed the playoffs since their last top 3 pick.

That way, there's really no reason to tank, but over time the sucky teams would be eventually all but guaranteed a high pick.

They literally are. You have people saying in GDTs they want the team to lose, telling the other team to wake up when the Flames are winning, and calling the other team down because they didn't win.

There's nothing wrong with thinking a losing season would be beneficial to the team and not being upset with losses. But you don't have to celebrate it like it's the Oilers either.

I've heard this debated using points percentage instead of actual points but I actually like your idea. As you say, the worse you are the more games you have to accumulate those points.

The idea of the lottery was obviously brought in to reduce pure tanking, But an actual competition would be better.

Lighten up ...

Haven't banned anyone for tank talk
Haven't banned anyone for bemoaning losses in PGT
Haven't suggested anyone can't comment
Not rating fan level for ribbons

Just saying it's pretty much the meat of every single topic these days, so a post game win over a rival maybe isn't looking for people upset that they won?

Just me maybe.

Tanking is not enjoyable. It shouldn't be. All PGTs should be a mixture of angst, anger and disdain.

Tanking is the art of delayed gratification. Suck ass now, get superstar players later.

If you actually enjoy the tank, then you are doing it wrong.

I would love some kind of tournament between the 16 non-playoff teams. Every team plays meaningful games in April. More revenue for the teams.

What a PGT (or a GT for that matter) should be reserved for is comments on the game that was played. There are a half dozen other team makeup threads where people can express concerns, debate, whatever, about where the team is going.
