Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but Audioslave seems objectively wrong, as both Rage and Soundgarden were just better bands. Has a supergroup ever been better than the bands it was formed from?

I will admit I like "Cochise" and still listen to it from time to time, but that does not make them the best rock band of all time.

As blatantly and successfully as Led Zeppelin, though? Robert Plante even addressed in a pretty admitting manner.

Too large a portion of their biggest hits are direct lifts of other songs. Like they say in this video, their MO as a band was to start by "covering" a song they liked and then slowly forming it into a new "original" song that became "theirs".

edit: damn YouTube and their new coding for imbedding. Only CP requires some part of the damn link and not the whole thing, lol.

Naw. Nickelback has to hold that title due to the length of their "career". I would have lived it if Nickelback had been limited to 3 high selling albums and about 10 charting singles. I'd put imagine dragons in the realm of Evanescence, possibly Creed.

Thought about them. It's an interesting choice, as Pearl Jam hadn't released an album yet, su it's really a supergroup of Soundgarden and Mother Love Bone. I still think Soundgarden was better.

I like Audioslave, but the answer for me is Rage Against the Machine. I’m still crushed that they canceled the tour after a couple Covid delays. I did see Morello this year and it was awesome, but obviously not the same.

Them Crooked Vultures was a fantastic supergroup (maybe my favourite supergroup), but not better than all the bands those guys came from.

The Postal Service is better than its separate parts, and that's saying something.

Nickelback aren't even worse than their knockoff Canadian cousins Theory of a Deadman. Being a second rate Nickelback is almost an impressively bad accomplishment.

It's Led Zeppelin.

If you wanted to build a 4-piece group out of the best in their fields, it would just end up being Led Zeppelin.

Music is so subjective. You’re always going to love stuff from your teenage years that’s probably crap. The Beatles were so far ahead. Zeppelin is great, everyone stole stuff from other artists. AC/DC is good old fashioned uncomplicated rock. Black Sabbath changed my life. Metallica is fantastic. Mark Knopfler is a god. Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden.
Audioslave is a great band, I don't think you'd have much argument against that. But it's just not the best rock band. I would hear arguments for Rage though. With more longevity they would be in the conversation.

They weren’t the best of all time but I will mention The Strokes for rescuing modern rock music

Interesting take. Death Cab, to me, felt like such a progression though. Ben's great.

At the Drive In, and MV & Sparta.. darker, and way more my jam. Could ya say the same? I think so.

I like this thread, it's got me dust'n off some ol jams to spin.

It takes five seconds to realize that it's time to move, it's time to get down with it, Brothers, it's time to testify and I want to know, are you ready to testify? Are you ready?

I give you a testimonial, the MC5!!!

Kind of shocking nobody mentioned The Who, Pink Floyd or Aerosmith

Arguably all are top 10 of all time

Rory Gallagher
Stones (late 60s-mid 70s)
Beatles (did something right)
Early Allman Brothers

The 70s were very good to me and I’ve forgotten a bit…
