Suspect there will be more than a few folks on here who will absolute hate his answers on Gridin and Parekh but he is right on both of them. It is usually best to try to put your younger players like those two in the best position to succeed longterm and not just play them in the NHL so the fans have a young player to see on the ice.
Would be fantastic if Gridin stayed in the AHL until February or March and then came up for the last 6-8 weeks. Likewise it would be fantastic to see Parekh do some damage at the world juniors and then go to some contender in the OHL on a training plan to become bigger and stronger.

Crazy that we are dead last in the NHL and people think we aren't in the middle of a rebuild?

Some over stepping again in my opinion.
He didn't say a single bad thing about Conroy or hinted he is gone. Just said he can't comment on the topic after saying he's done a good job.
Like yesterday, and Wednesday night .... I still don't fret about a terrible spokesperson until I see terrible moves.

Royle posted the other day his tidbits from checking in on management and everything was good on the Conroy front seemingly.
So I'm hoping it's just a case of insane messaging and not anything actually being actioned by management. Still, time will tell if we decline offers on Kadri or Coleman this year and those rumored offers ever float publically. I think Anderson there's no way they actually keep so we should be fine on that end.
Looney tunes that we even have to doubt the direction the Flames are going when it's flashing in bright red what the course of action should be.

Eh, I don’t think we are quite in that reality yet. It does seem like more of a possibility though

No. I do agree with this. The NHL is not a developmental league and the AHL is.

If they fire Conroy I’ll cancel my tickets. If he leaves willingly because of dinosaurs not being realistic I’ll understand and cancel my tickets.

A hockey trade for the 32nd place team.
This is dark time for this organization and it won't change with this current management/ownership group.

Did he have a third interview as well where he commented on a Rasmus trade? This is what he said in this interview

At some point, if we can't find something that works for him, and us, then we'll have to look at alternatives. We know that, but we're not racing out to do anything, unless it's something that says, ‘OK, this is something — someone wants to step up.’ And it's not draft picks, because with anybody who wants Rasmus, in all reality, their draft pick would be in the 20s to 32nd. It'd be different if you said yeah, you're guaranteed a top-three or top-five pick
|
A 31st overall pick would be a brutal return for Rasmus. Did he say somewhere it would be a hockey trade that was getting another vet in return? That would be a crazy thing for them to do, a first in 3 years, getting a player to help them now.

A lot of people just wanted to feed Parekh icetime earlier in the year despite seeing him struggle with the transition to the NHL game.

The man is shutting down a potential trade for Rasmus involving even the 20th overall draft pick.
But that is beyond the point. They aren't getting a top 10 pick for Rasmus. They aren't getting somebody recently drafted from those positions.

So he is probably talking about young prospects then? Like no top 10 picks (which I would agree with) but young prospects, is that your theory?

The Rasmus stuff is the least of my concerns. He will be traded.

I'll admit I'm drawing my own conclusions from a single paragraph response, but it's a weird response in the context of fans clamouring for a rebuild.
He must have hated the Hanifin and Lindholm trades.

Why isolate that you won't trade him for picks?
Why not say nothing? Or say you want trade him for an old UFA?
Just another very strange remark
And I believe them when they say they'd love to keep him. Hes their best dman this year and I also believe that they want to try and be competitive every season.
I still think he leaves but I feel like its in his court.

That's not the point. We know he's gone, he would've re-signed by now if he wasn't.
The difference is in the return, and he literally said he doesn't want draft picks.
"...unless it's something that says, ‘OK, this is something — someone wants to step up’ and it's not draft picks..."
To me, that says he's looking to make a "now" trade. There are creative ways of getting better picks. Weaponizing cap space by bringing back expiring contracts, mulit-team deals, etc.

I read that as teams will need to step up with something more than just a first rounder because it will be 20th or later, so that won't be enough for them to move him now.
I see that as a signal they're looking for something similar to the Carlo or Hanifin trades, where the first rounder is the starting point, but not the only return.

The better question is why not say "that's a GM question. I'm not going to discuss trades, I'll let Craig handle those questions."

Well short of trading Rasmus for Stamkos and Nashville’s 1st there are not a lot of ways to weaponize the cap space and get a pick that is not in the 20-32 range. Not many teams are going to trade for Rasmus who are not comfortably in the playoffs.

That’s not how I interpreted it. More that they are going to be patient if the best they can do now is a late first

These still all get you picks where you draft a Pelletier or Jankowski. And trading picks for cap space is really not done much these days die to the cap increase.
think he was talking about something like the Robertson trade that was rumoured at one point. But I have pretty good confidence Andersson's return will include picks.
