It is because the rest of us are friends or family with the owner and are in cahoots to keep the masses in a state of perpetual anger.

It's definitely going to be a long rebuild --- however it is labelled --- around here. I understand that there are concerns about what the team is calling their status at the moment. However, the label matters little to me at the moment. Really, the team needs to acquire talent and the current GM keeps saying that the best way to do that is drafting the players. Until Conroy is let go for not icing a competitive product, I will choose to ignore the press or misstatements and focus on the actions of the management.

LOL. Is it the side that accuses the other of being in cahoots with management? Or the one that's saying "take it easy, they are in last place, and don't hang on every third hand report of a management sentiment as some sort of ominous rebuttal of all the actions they've taken"?

I don't know that. How much does he own?
Are we really concerned that the ownership group can't weather a rebuild? I don't have visibility to the team's finances but I'd guess it has been a very long time since any of the owners have had to inject their personal capital into this business for operating purposes.

We all want the same thing, we just don't agree on how to get there.
I fully support the pitchfork parade if we try and salvage this season and make no trades, I just don't believe that to be what's going to happen.

The Flames have not moved out significant assets to improve the team nor have they tried to improve the team on the free agent market for 3 years. I ain’t too worried that they will deviate from the course of trying to lose this season of all seasons.

If both Andersson and Kadri are not traded by the deadline, we riot!
Until then trying not to get worked up.

Here's a question: If management is set on trying for the playoffs, why have they made no moves to acquire better players? Veteran guys? Calgary has draft capital to spend on them, they have cap room to spare. Panarin is a pending UFA. Tuch is available.

OK, "Newsflash" was snarky. But there was an attempt to tie increased revenues to drafting high. The Oilers have always been the only game in town up there. They've always made more money than the Flames. And this was true in their lean years.
Even if it wasn't so, it doesn't mean that Edwards doesn't sweat over lost ticket sales. Are you paying $16K for a pair of seasons tix to watch the product this year? Like I said, I know of plenty who got rid of them last year after the sell off.
Conroy has maybe sold Edwards on the prospect of sales post-McKenna, but Edwards at least knows the odds are against McKenna being on the team. And McKenna isn't getting the hype of McDavid (or even Bedard). Even if that's true, Edwards probably thinks he can avoid some losses by not saying the R word.

Truth is, I am anxious for them to make a trade too soon.
I'd hate to see them get any positive momentum before it is well too late.

The mere fact that Maloney accidentally used the word ‘rebuild’, and then corrected himself, shows that he knows it's a rebuild. He wasn't supposed to say the quiet part out loud – but he did.

I think that's fair but they're also not moving like a team that's actively attempting to prioritize future development. They're doing what they've always done, mushy middle.
Not trading Anderson at the deadline last year, not weaponizing cap space, exposing young players to waivers to protect scrubs, extending a coaching staff who's style is not skill player conducive, not actively soliciting offers for veterans (allegedly).
I think that's the thing that's most frustrating to me, if you're going to rebuild then rebuild, don't leave us in the dark with "oh lets keep some guys and then maybe we sneak in and then who knows?".
The tinfoil theory I currently have is that Conroy's mandate from ownership is playoffs or bust and he's not allowed to actively go all in on a rebuild. However, he also sees that this team isn't going to be able to compete, so he's neglected to make moves to try and mitigate and is essentially just letting the ship sink.
It's also why I think he might not have an extension, correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't one of Treliving's concerns back in the day when he was looking at an extension that he wanted full autonomy and ownership didn't want to give him that?

They're used to it. They're probably also partly paying for Bouchard's salary with their 50/50 scam lol.
