I can assure you with certain definity we are not clawing our way back to the 25th overall pick.

I can buy Cosentino's logic (even apart from the clickbait factor). Verhoeff is playing right now at the level you'd like a #1OA to play at. McKenna… has work to do.

I'd say it's a yellow flag not for teams thinking of drafting McKenna, but for the player himself. He needs to up his game as the season progresses, or he might not go #1. However, there seems to be good reason to believe he can do that.

Taking D really high always seems risky...a lot of good but not great dmen in the top 3 over the years
Ekblad, Gudbranson, Bogosian, Barker, ect.

Pronman is bad. I have said it before, he has the worst takes of anyone I have ever read ranking and projecting prospects.

I'm drafting talent and upside, not 2 months of results at 17

I think Valentini is like 5'08 or something and doesn't have the track record of a Mckenna which I would assume impacts Pronman's take there but if you're putting up ppg in college as a freshman, you're probably not waiting until R4.

100% . I think this is one of Buffalos problems . Powers and Dahlin are both really good - Dahlin great for sure - but it hasn’t translated into winning

It also seems to take D a lot longer to become dominant players .

Great to know that if the Flames finish near the bottom and miss out on McKenna (which is likely even if they finish last) there are other franchise level prospects out there in this year's draft.

While the true tankers will be tanking, we'll be racking up late season Ws, it's the Flames way.

Verhoeff is going to be a great player. McKenna will be a PHENOM in all likelihood. Gotta go with the higher ceiling if we have 1st OA.

Are there 'franchise level' touted d-men nowadays that don't put up top line forward-level stats?

Because I dont think Verhoeff is going to be that big producer ala Makar, Hughes, Karlsson

Rock solid #1 D, absolutely. Exactly who you want in that position with his tools and stature.

But he isn't going to do it all for you from the backend.

I'd love to have him. But you'd still need an elite point getter or two up front even after you get him in order to have a hope at competing. He's a core piece for a good team, but not a catalyst like Makar and Hughes can be.

So our “star” dman and forward would both weigh a buck o five.

Nice

Parekh and McKenna just need meat on their bones.

Carnivore diet and Giodano levels of gym obsession for a year and they'll have the man strength to dominate.

Line up that creatine like its snow!

Does anyone know the odds of the last place team retaining #1 overall pick after the draft lottery? Is it less than 50%?

Being an optimist (despite being a Flames fan), I like the idea that there are at least two players in this draft that pundits consider worthy of the first pick.

25.5% chance of first and 55% chance of drafting 3rd if last
