When does Don Maloney’s contract expire? I’d imagine given his age, he’ll probably retire and be replaced before the new arena opens and the Flames are closer to competing.

Makes me wonder if the Flames are circling back on Shanahan (or someone else), and that’s why they haven’t fully committed to Conroy yet.

I don’t think this is out of character for the Flames to have a GM operating in the last year of their deal. I believe it happened twice with Treliving.

If they were not happy with Conroy having Maloney and Nonisnin place they could fire him and not be worried about steering the ship.

I think Conroy gets his extension and honestly they should give him a 5 year deal he needs to see this build through

If you are looking at making deals for assets like Andersson, Kadri, and Coleman why would you even keep Conroy in charge of those decisions if you weren't going to keep him at the end of the season.

I think this is just leverage to make sure Conroy doesn’t just phone it in on trades with a new cushy contract. Just business side “DONT screw this up” pressure in my mind.
