Bigger bonus is that it probably knocks Vegas down.

Vatrano seems to have fallen down the line up in Anaheim. Makes more than Coleman.
Ras and Coleman for Vatrano and Mintyukov could make sense.

Vatrano has no value for the Flames. That is a pure cap dump. Would think that is more a Ras straight up for those two players. The reason Vatrano has fallen out of favour is he is an offence only guy who does not do anything defensively and he is not good enough to play in their top six.
Saw Minty play a lot with the 67’s and was not really impressed. Not surprised he has been beaten out by other dmen in Anaheim. That trade would give up two of our best trade assets for a guy who has real swing and miss potential. If Minty is not putting up 50+ points a year as a dman in the NHL he is not really going to be doing much for you.

I think using the Peter Mahr second quarter is a better reflection of the team, if the Ducks are still in the thick of things after 40 games I could see Verbeek wanting to move some chips in. It has been since 2018 since they last made the playoffs.

Ducks would need to add a 1st and 2nd.
What about
Zary+Andersson
For
Vatrano+Mintyukov+2nd
Flames hopefully flip Coleman for a 1st+ at the deadline and Vatrano can be a bit of a replacement for him.
Another Vatrano deal I would jump on if possible would be for Sharangovich

So, you are saying that Rasmus Andersson who more than likely isn't signing with anyone before the deadline and Coleman are worth more than a 21-year-old dman who was 10th OV pick and is playing 18 mins a night on a top team in the NHL so far this year isn't good value.
Vatrano isn't that bad at $4.5 mil for a couple more years. His negative value could change to positive value with more ice in Calgary.
Maybe we could get a 2nd in the deal too, but IMO Mintykov is the most valuable player in this deal.
I personally think Conroy is hesitating to trade some of our vets because our best prospects are 18-19 years old. Not ready and playing junior hockey.
Minty for Ras gives him a chance at bigger minutes and with guys like Hanley, Pachal and Bean there is still room for AHL dmen to bump players out.

Do we really believe that 1.5 years of Coleman has more value than a 24 year-old controlled Zary? I hope not.

I think Vatrano could come here and play well and be tradeable.
I would do Zary for sure if Coleman was traded to get a 1st elsewhere. But if we move out players, Zary's value should go up with more ice.
I'd trade Frost now as he is getting the playing time and has played better than Zary but 40–50-point pace with his prime-time role on the team isn't very good IMO.

Zary has had an atrocious season and after a few injuries he is not as aggressive as he used to be at driving the net and making plays.
I have a feeling there will be at least 3 Flames trades this year but I am not sure they will all be the veterans and we could see some of the mid 20’s guys moved out in change of scenery deals.
I feel like to a top team in the league Coleman is more valuable than Zary

As of right now Vatrano is providing similar value to Sharangovich and has a couple years left on his deal and in my opinion a negative asset. I would take him in a package back if it could bring in a piece like Mintyukov who fills the need as a left shot Dman with upside.
I think Frost could be an interesting chip but I would move him at the deadline when teams are more desperate even though he has a year left on his deal.

I am on board with trading out veterans while their value is highest (and can also easily see Frost or Zary dealt if they can find some value).
There is an argument for keeping Coleman because unlike many of our other veterans, he really seems to help players get better on the ice. Mangiapane, Coronato, Honzek are three young guys that clearly developed as players when put on a line with he and Backlund. It's a nice spot to put a young player.

I agree. They are also far from a "have team" they have one of the oldest barns in the league. They have an income that is 9th last in the league. There is some real economic pressure to becoming a playoff team again.

This post is one of the best thought-out and phrased things I've ever seen you write. Often you focus so tightly on the negatives, it seems like you hate the whole organization and everything about it. It's refreshing to find that you see some positives as well, that you like Conroy as a GM and recognize that Murray Edwards isn't a complete fool.
I'm out of thanks at the moment – but thank you.

Seconded…for many of the same reasons.

No interest in Vatrano, the Flames already have a version of that player in Sharangovich.
Mintyukov is interesting though. LHD who was teammates with Parekh in Saginaw. I'm for it.

Interesting clip on the TSN app (I can’t seem to share a link) with Button and Onrait talking about both Alberta teams. Some great shots at the Oilers.
Onrait mentions the flames being too good to finish last with Kadri, Huberdeau, Weegar, Wolf and Edwards won’t rebuild. Button mentions that ownership is on board with a rebuild, that they are already this bad with those guys, and they do not want to just throw young players to the wolves. Mentions the 15/16 Leafs who were competitive but finished last and got Matthews. States ideally the Flames are in the same spot the draft McKenna. Maybe they move a coupe veterans but he did not agree they need to shed more talent to finish last.

Mintyukov for Andersson would be an interesting framework.
With Parehk and Brz, is Mintyukov too much of the same though?
Offense focused d-man with some gaps on the defensive side.

I mean, what team doesn't have 4 good players? Sabres have Thompson, Dahlin, Power, Tuch, Byram, Quinn.

Yeah if Kadri, Huberdeau and Weegar are your top 3 skaters, you are a bad team.
Not disrespect to those guys, but that has to be one of the worst, if not the worst, top 3 in the entire league.
