I think most teams want a Coleman type as a rental.

Yeah, Calgary is hopefully all over this.

Wouldn't be surprised if the ducks are looking for a deal similar to the one they did with Philly last year to move Drysdale for Cutter Gauthier. Maybe something around Minty/Zary?

Their right side still looks hollow. Gudas is 35. Helleson is 21. Rasmus would look good there. I still would try and pry McQueen out. They are centre heavy and Verbeek is bad.

As was mentioned, Mintyukov is a good friend of Zayne and a player who needs more opportunity to reach that 10th overall pick potential. Would have to assume Calgary would be on this considering the pedigree, the left shot, the relationship with a guy assumed to be a franchise cornerstone moving forward.

Edit: now that I'm thinking about it, did Sec et al not have some intel in the summer that Calgary and Anaheim had been going back and forth and at various points felt close on something that might get revisited down the line? I think most hoped it was around Mactavish but perhaps those discussions would also function as groundwork on a deal like this.

I strongly doubt Kadri would go there. I bet he's got that team on his NTC.

Only a dream, unfortunately.

And I think more teams would pay more for Coleman for 2 playoff runs at 50% retained.

But I do get the situation with his wife being pregnant may change the scenario a bit

Ducks should just call about Andersson. Doubt he re-signs there, but Mintyukov is exactly what the Flames need. Minty + 2nd in whatever year for Andersson. Andersson gives the Ducks a decent push. They have a solid coach, a solid forward group, Andersson might even like it there when all is said and done.

Bonus, helping out Anaheim could very well bump Edmonton out of a playoff spot.

If he didn't want to extend with the Kings its pretty much a lock he won't with the Ducks.

What about one for one? Is that fair deal?

Andersson could look at the Ducks as an up and coming team that he thinks he can win with?

Not sure exactly why he was against going to the Kings? Was it the market or the team he was opposed to?

Thats fair, maybe it was team direction that soured him on the Kings. My impression was it was the area. Geographically.

Hell I would do Minty for Andersson 1 for 1 if that deal were on the table. No brainer.

Well, I even said in my post that it's likely that he wouldn't re-sign. He would help them with a playoff push.

Maybe a 2 for 2 swap, with Mintyukov and 2nd for Andersson and Poirier. Poirier needs a change of scenery, and I the Wranglers are kind of full on D.

I would try and squeeze a 2nd or a 3rd, but wouldn't be mad if we didn't. Perhaps D. Jiricek is a good comparison for what Minty's value is.

Reading Anaheim fans reactions to Mintykov’s comments, many of them would prefer to trade Helleson, who in my viewings this season has looked at times better than LaCombe and logs big minutes in all situations. If we could offload Zary+Rasmus for Helleson+ I would be ecstatic.

David Jiricek:

2024-Nov-30 Traded from Columbus Blue Jackets with round 5 pick in the 2025 draft (Justin Kipkie) to Minnesota Wild for Daemon Hunt, conditional round 1 pick in the 2025 draft (Pyotr Andreyanov), round 3 pick in the 2026 draft, round 4 pick in the 2026 draft and round 2 pick in the 2027 draft

^ What's Andersson's value compared to this? About even?

Yeah, it was an old man trying to rep the Flames while towing the company line. He slipped a bit.

Flames feel there is a chunk of the fanbase that needs to hear, ‘we are still trying’ and ‘we want to be competitive ever season.’ But Flames know that in order to succeed as an NHL team, first you need to fail and build up from rock bottom.

That’s clearly what CC has been doing. Shipping out aging talent for replacement level NHLers to fill the team out while the kids develop. And to not make it too easy for the kids, so that they don’t develop bad EDM habits.

Teams in a PO run are thinking of the present, not even two seasons out. Coleman is likely a temporary ouster of one of their younger players, so they’d want the space freed up again.

Most teams just like these guys on as short a term as possible. Maybe the retainer would help, but it’s not just a cap issue, it’s contract and roster limit issue as well.

It sounds like Andersson wants to go to market, so we should assume any deal he accepts will be a rental, and set our expectations accordingly. I can’t see a team like the Ducks giving up big assets for a rental.
