Zegras is having a fantastic start to the season in Philly under Tocchet of all coaches. One has to wonder if they should have held onto him as he would have likely turned around under Quenneville. The locker room hated Cronin and a team should be weary of trading players under those circumstances.

Quenville might have fixed Zegras. It sometimes I think players getting a complete fresh start with a new org is what they need.
Anytime there is a sub 25 year old former top 10 pick who at least at some point showed flashes in the NHL is worth the gamble. It seems like a decent amount of these guys are better in their second stop.
Didn't Zegras say in an interview that (ironically) the climate was part of the reason he wanted out of Anaheim? He said something like he needs snow and every day in Anaheim is the same, which really wore on him after a while.

Seasonal depression is a thing for sure but if you read the article it's clear that he and Cronin were not a good match. Back on the seasonal depression thing, it's pretty common for that to kick in the fall because it signals summer is ending and winter is coming. That's kind of been something that has affected me for most of my life so I'm curious if say living in California would be a cure for that or lead to a different type of seasonal depression like Zegras admitted to.
In case anyone missed Carolina vs Colorado two weeks ago they both wore their former cities uniforms and damn it was crisp. On screen graphics used HFD and QUE while the announce team was referring to them as the Nordiques and Whalers towards the end.

I think sometimes we probably underestimate how tough it is from a mental health perspective to be these guys who are 19, 20, 21 years old that get thrust into the spot light with all the pressure in the world on them.
On the ice they are under so much pressure to perform, off the ice you pretty much are being watched 24/7, never know who is taking a picture or might be recording you, and you can't make a mistake. And nowadays the constant criticism feeds into your personal life for sure - in the past you only had to hear it at the arena and maybe the news paper, now the criticism is all over social media, etc and it's harder to hide from it.
Don't get me wrong - they are rewarded handsomely financially to deal with it - but I think it's tough on them especially in those cases where it probably feels like the organization doesn't have your back either.
I look at that 24 year old on the Cowboys who ended up taking his own life today and worry that could become more common for some of these young athletes with the mental health toll and pressure they're under nowadays.

Looking at the standings St Louis and Minnesota seem to be two other teams in team tank mode that maybe weren’t predicted to be there.
The Wild are not anywhere close to tank mode.
With the contract that they gave Kaprisov they will be trying to do everything possible to make sure they are icing a winning team.

Not sure where to put this pure speculation but it is rumored that Brendan Shanahan wants to get back into running a team. If the Flames season continues to go as terrible as it has been is there a chance Ownership would pursue Shanahan again?
What's special about Shanahan? I've never understood. He talks the ownership talk and tries to think outside the box but I don't think he's anything special.

He presided over a pretty formidable regular season team. Sure they choked in the playoffs but becoming a consistent divisional playoff team is the first step to a cup.
I believe Shanahan turned down the Flames because he wanted more than just to run the team? That or he knew the Leafs opportunity was on the horizon and waited that out?
Personally I think Conroy should be extended I want to see him keep going. I want Iginla to get a bigger role.
I do not think anyone expected to be this bad this year with only one more year until Scotia Place. Would Shanahan replace Maloney? Probably not
Sometimes you get a feeling that it’s eventually not going to be a fit between a certain player and a certain team. I think an example of that is going to be Michkov and Philadelphia. He’s young and they are likely to be patient with him but I think, eventually, that is a player that will either want to be traded or return to the KHL.
Between showing up to camp out of shape, his interview talking about hating dumping the puck in and having to go get it, the concerns/reservations when he was drafted about him staying in Russia, the comments from Coutourier about him the other day (nothing too serious but strange for a veteran to single out a young player) and the fact that Philly can be a really tough fanbase for some players… I would not be surprised if Michkov is playing somewhere else in 2-3 years. Also, Oholadelphia has a history of not being afraid to move young players if they don’t see them as fit for their organization. He’s still young and developing and he has lots of skill so all this could nothing. I almost get an Alexander Semin vibe from this player - tons of skill but may end up being difficult to get him to adjust his game away from being solely one-dimensional.
I don't think Tocchet is maybe an ideal coach for a guy like Michkov but you could have said the same about Zegras although he seems to be pretty happy about where he's at which is a factor. Still at 20 years old the team can afford to be very patient with him and he has a lot of runway to mature.

For sure. Still young and developing. And I think he has the potential to be a top 5 winger in the league. Just feel like this is a player not longed for that organization despite the patience they will and should show.
It’s an incredibly unfortunate story, but word came Friday that Jack Hughes suffered a hand injury while at a team dinner Thursday night.
Exact details are unknown at this time, but it’s believed he slipped and cut his hand, in what multiple sources are calling a “fluke accident
