Does it look like this version? It's less premium looking but has the same power specifications.

Which model Corsair PSU do you have? But as long as the cable came with the PSU, and has the 4 tiny pins at the top, that should make it compatible with the 12VHPWR/12v-2x6 connectors on the new Nvidia cards.

Yeah Corsair has a page that should tell the compatibility for a specific cable and a specific power supply.

Huge day for Valve news. First user experiences with the Frame VR headset, and then just casually dropping new Steam Machine and Steam Controller hardware coming soon

https://www.ign.com/articles/valve-a...s-no-price-yet

If the "6x more powerful than a Steam Deck" claims are true, then it should play pretty much every AAA title available at 60fps. This thing is going to kneecap Microsoft's Xbox-PC hybrid thing before it even comes out if the price is anything close to reasonable

I need to be pointed in the right direction on a laptop..

The purpose is for travel - I have to take my work laptop with me on flights and want to bring a personal laptop to watch movies, etc. I also want to use it with my old RTX2070 box eGPU, which I use as a dock at one of my houses. Essentially, I want a system that in conjunction with that card will work for very light gaming, like Hades Ii sort of stuff. Other priorities would be battery life and display quality (but not refresh rate, don't care about that).

What should I be looking at? I haven't bought a laptop in 5 years as my 2019 Razer Blade is still going great, but it is not suitable for traveling with at all.

Would a gaming handheld like the ROG Ally X work for you? It has eGPU support.

Virtually anything you buy will be able to run things like Hades 2 with no issue. If you want to do a bit more graphics heavy gaming, then anything with a Ryzen should do nicely, akin to a Steam Deck

Right, so I guess in that case it's the other stuff... like should I be avoiding laptops with snapdragon rather than intel / amd? Are there specific things I should be looking for or avoiding in the current laptop market?

Like, this for example seems about right - can I do better for the price or can I get what I need for less, or...

Nah, I need a laptop with a full size screen, at least 13".

My wife has the surface (really like the surface) with the snapdragon and it works great for her but she just uses citrix for work and browses the net. The compatibility issues with the snapdragon would lean me toward intel unless you're sure everything you're going to use is supported (pretty much no gaming). I would get an intel core ultra instead as you don't need to worry about any compatibility.

We have the surface and bought a usb c 12" monitor so she can have 2 monitors for work when she's on the go.

For eGPU support, you likely need a Thunderbolt (TB) port (which looks just like a USB-C port), and is usually only found on nicer laptops.

If you don't mind the less svelte design and LCD screen, the base Dell 14 Plus is probably the most cost effective laptop with a TB port. Its processor is also more geared to the thin-and-light market and should offer better battery life compared to the Asus. With Dell Rewards, Rakuten cashback and may be a first time buyer coupon, all-in price could be around $900.

If you have a Venngo/Perkopolis/Student Price Card account, you can get access Samsung's partner store and get a Samsung Book5 360 (Non-Pro) for $875 and it has a nicer design, OLED screen and two TB ports.

Thanks! That's awesome - both of those look like good alternatives; unfortunately I don't have access to the discounts you listed for Samsung, but I suppose I could see if I know someone who does.

What’s the best handheld these days? I do at least four big international trips a year for work now and think I’ll fold and buy one.

It depends on your budget. The Steam Deck is still great but it's showing its age. I don't think it can be beat for its price though.

Companies like GPD and Ayaneo have great handhelds but the prices are insane.

The ROG Ally X is really good but the price is a little high.

The Lenovo Legion S runs SteamOS and would be my choice overall overall until a new Steam Deck comes out.

I heard memory prices are going nuts with all the AI demand. Not sure what discounts will happen at Black Friday but I assume prices/inventory will be tight afterwards?

I've been thinking of updating my computer and have just been seeing those memory prices and yeah maybe be good to grab memory sooner rather than later.

Lol some 64GB kits on MemEx for $600 off or $900 off...

Wait, so I have to pay $600+ for 64GB of RAM?!

If it's driven by AI I doubt it'll be coming down any time soon...

Heh, back in September I bought this off Amazon:
2x Patriot Viper Elite II DDR4 RAM 64GB (2X32GB) 3200MHz CL18 1.35v UDIMM Desktop Gaming Memory Kit Compatible with XMP - PVE2464G320C8K - $202.99 each - $405.98 total

Yep, 128 GB of DDR4-3200 cost me $406 which is now happily keeping my gaming workstation and my work VM that lives upon it very happy.

Now, to buy just ONE of those 64 gig kits: $557.99

Either I go with 32GB or I decide to wait for a PC upgrade.. my kid's laptop is on its last legs so I was thinking of handing down my current PC guts to him though so the timing now is good for me and hopefully I can save a bit of $$ on Black Friday or Boxing Day deals.

I guess I don't need 64GB, if I do end up doing some of the things I was thinking of that it would be helpful I can look at it at that time.

RAM upgrades becoming as significant as GPU upgrades, what a world.

And I'm very appreciative of your post, that reminded me to upgrade.
