Yup. A team that wants Coleman is a contender wanting to shore up their depth. Vegas, Dallas, Colorado, maybe Winnipeg (if they get their act together) out here. More teams out east but that PO picture is to fluid right now to tell.

If Laf goes somewhere and has more success he wouldn’t be the first high pick to have better results on their second stop. He wouldn’t be a pure dump but likely acquired at less than a team would want trading a 23 year old former 1st overall pick.
Zary+flames 2nd or maybe Vegas 1st would be as high as I would be comfortable with.
Left shot winger is one of the last pieces we need especially if we are lucky to get McKenna

I'm not interested at all. It seems like the Puljujarvi situation where every team thinks "he'll do better here". Maybe a comparison is Drouin.

Rangers haven't drafted and developed an elite player since Shesterkhin. Some outright busts (Kravtsov, Andersson, Zac Jones), some guys who are NHLers but disappointments (Schneider), some guys who for one reason or another have not hit the levels expected (Othmann), and some guys who have moved on to varying degrees of sucess (Kakko, Chytil). The most successful after Shesterkhin has probably been K'Andre Miller, but ymmv with him.

Really? He doesn't address a need.
Stick with Zary, the second, add Yegor and maybe I could see it working if for no other reason to ease the winger log jam by turning two of them into one, with a higher pedigree.
But like others have said, LAF is approaching cap dump territory.

I think anything beyond a late 1st or high 2nd for Laf would be a mistake.

Draft Pick
|
I think if the Flames were in the Lafreniere business they'd have also probably closed on at least one of like Cozens/Zegras/Kakko. Similar profiles, young, change of scenery targets. The Frost and Farabee deal fit those bills as well but the cost was still reasonable enough.
The fact that they haven't would make me think that GMCC is letting this thing sink without trying much to mitigate. Those would all be "retool" type moves and it feels like we're beyond that at this point, at least until after the upcoming draft.

Michael DeRosa of nhltraderumors speculates that there is 3 teams to watch in the Rasmus Andersson sweepstakes:
-Detroit: They need an impactful righty who can play on the second-pair, and contribute to special teams. The Red Wings would be one of my first choices for trade partners.
-Carolina: Though we have heard that Carolina might be on his no-trade list, the 'Canes need help on their right side, and have always relied on a deep defense.
-Dallas: They obviously need to upgrade their D, and Andersson would be the ideal target to play on the second-pairing with Thomas Harley.
DeRosa also mentions the Golden Knights as possible suitors for Andersson, while naming the Canucks, Red Wings, and Canadiens as teams kicking tires on Kadri.
Jeremy Tingly says the Devils are going to make a huge splash in the trade market before the deadline, and still have most of their 2026 draft picks (including their first) to dangle. They will also look to trade G Nico Daws, as they have both goalies on the team locked-up long-term, and they would be willing to part with Dawson Mercer for an all-star quality player who is under team control for the next few seasons. He says they have been linked to Kadri, O'Reilly, and Stamkos.
Rob Couch says that Blues trade candidates include C Brayden Schenn, D Justin Faulk, and G Jordan Binnington- who has been struggling this season. Faulk is a righty, and will crowd Andersson's market somewhat.

To be honest our system isn’t exactly conducive for reclamation projects to have any offensive success.
Is there some 3rd line C prospect we can turn into the next Yelle? That’s about all we’re really capable of developing on this roster as constructed and coached.

One downside in acquiring Laf (ignoring the cost completely) would be adding another LHS LW that isn't fast, and has a long term deal.

If you could use Coronato in a package for someone like Kyrou then sure, but I don't think it's realistic.

This whole team is bad. Hard for a guy like Coronato to excel in this environment. Farabe and Frost are the only two not on pace for record lows.

I personally don't want Laf for the price it would cost. I don't think he's a bad player, I just don't know if he will ever be anything more than a 2nd liner.

What are peoples thoughts on a Zary & Sharangovich for Quinn & Samuelsson trade?

Our Jessica Fletcher

We need to keep our guys who are 27 and under, and who are established NHLers. These are our “vets” 2-3 years from now, who will help along our top draft picks.
Andersson, Coleman, Kadri, Backlund - these guys won’t be here in 2-3 years. We need leadership, so best to hang on to guys like Zary, Frost, Sharangovich.
