They're going to out tank the Flames, aren't they?
16 games into the season, the Flames are off to the worst start in franchise history and the Oilers only have one more regulation win than the Flames and only 2 more overall.

Top 12 protected.
Of course when I went to run the draft lottery simulator on Tankathon, the Oilers got 1st OA on the first try.
It feels gross, but I really want them to start winning a few games to get them out of the bottom 12.

Ugh. The league is already a complete joke with the way they’ve pampered McDavid and the Oilers. If those losers end up getting another top 5 pick, that’ll pretty much signal the death of the NHL for me.

They are a scary force to be reckoned with when it comes to tanking. Winning draft lotteries is the one thing they are truly elite at. Imagine being so bad for so long and winning so many draft lotteries that the league literally has to change the draft lottery rules because one team won’t stop sucking and getting the first overall pick and usually derailing the development of that player.
Ideally, would love to see them trade their 2027 1st round pick in a panic move to save their season, only to ultimately continue to drop in the standings. That would remove the top 12 protection on the 2026 1st round pick they game to San Jose for Wallman while also giving up another first round in 2027. I know it would make San Jose an even more stacked young team, but it would be worth it for the oilers to have to watch another team get a top prospect in the league so that Edmonton could overpay Wallman.

Was thinking what’s the likely panic move that the oilers do to try and save their season?
1. Trade for a goalie. Would have to be a clear upgrade which you’d think shouldn’t be too hard but they would probably want something that’s a bit of a name and has a record of being a legit #1 goalie. Looking at standings and teams that might be leaning rebuild if they continue to struggle this season and they have a goalie that’s considered a legit #1 they may be willing to trade and if that player has limited trade protection narrows the list pretty much down to Binnington in St.Louis. Would be really funny if the oilers traded their 1st round pick in 2027 for Binnington. He’s not worth a 1st round pick IMO but St.Louis should not be looking to do any favours to a desperate oilers team.
2. Trade for a forward. Why? Because it’s the oilers and that’s what they do. If Nashville continues to struggle, I could see the oilers trading their 2027 1st round pick for O’Reilly… and continue to ignore their goaltending problem.

I'm not too worried about Edmonton tanking, they pretty much have to go all in the next 3 seasons, while McDavid is still under contract. The league will do everything to make sure he's in the playoffs too. Ideally they trade a bunch of futures and miss via tiebreak.

I think if they draft McKenna, I’m done with it.

Bob - “a stink fest . . . I’m as guilty as anybody (top 4 D in the league).”
COL went 0-7 on the PP, still scored 9 and had one called back.

They get pumped 9-1 and the radio guy's rant keeps going back to "I can't believe they went 1 for 7 on the power play".
They don't get it up there.

Which goalie do they panic trade for? UPL from Buffalo? Or bigger?

Quoted for sheer ridiculousness of this stat.
I mean: theoretically ~14 minutes of time with no goals. Deduct that from the overall game time and they still pumped nine past SkinPick. If you deduct the cOil’s PP time too, then the Avs scored nine goals in a little more than half a game.
Avs scored a shortie too….Which basically negates the cOil’s PP goal…

Blue Jackets twice and Sabres in next 5 will either help lead them to believe all is well again, or start full panic mode. Either is fine
