Garnett to the Celtics all but done apparently
http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/7073708
This makes Boston a pretty good team next year with a top three of Pierce, Allen, and Garnett if it does end up happening even if their bench will kinda suck. Not so good from a Raptors fan p.o.v.

Not a good deal for Boston at all. Mortgaged the future for what? 4th seed and the 2nd round at best. Al Jefferson is going to be a superstar.
This is going to fail miserably and both Doc Rivers and Danny Ainge will finally be shown the door.

Who in the east is going to beat them in the 2nd round? The East sucks. Lebron James was the only star on his team and he made the finals. Not many teams are going to be able stop all 3 of those players when they are on the court. Hell teams couldn't do it when those players were the only stars on the court.

The East does suck but Boston is still nowhere near Detroit, Cleveland, Miami and Chicago with Detroit going down a bit and even Washington with a healthy Arenas and Butler. They would even struggle again Toronto or Orlando. What's so great about those 3 guys, they're all over 30 and have never done anything in the playoffs. It'll take months for them just to get used to each other.

Yeah, I tend to agree with GirlySports. I think they have an excellent shot at being this year's New Jersey: three hyped star players that struggle to find chemistry and stay healthy, surrounded by one of the weakest supporting casts in the game. I am really looking forward to the Bosh vs. Garnett battles though. Bosh always seems to really get up for playing against Garnett. Like watching Iginla vs. Shanahan.

They've all made it to the Conference finals. The best player any of them has ever played with is Sam Cassell. I think you guys are underestimating Garnett and Pierce. Allen is probably on the downside of his career, but Garnett and Pierce can still dominate.

Allen had a career high in ppg last season with 26.4 I think. No reason to think he is losing his touch or anything. As long as they stay healthy, I think these are three stars that could make it work together and could end up being pretty scary. They are severely lacking in the pg department though right now. Rondo is nice, but don't know if he is ready to run the show.

No doubt they could make an impact but I can't see them being instant contenders. They traded the 5th pick for Allen and now they trade the rest of their future for a few years of Garnett? Al Jefferson will be similar to Garnett in a couple of years so that alone makes it an unnecessary trade.
This would be like the Flames trading Phaneuf, Lombardi, Warrener and Boyd for someone like Jagr.

Minny can finally recover after that terrible Thomas debacle from a couple years back. At least I think it was him.
Boston's biggest mistake for the past 10 years or so is thinking that Pierce is a franchise player. He's just not good enough. It's like Phoenix (coyotes) thinking they can build around Doan. Building around Garnett, however, is something that is viable, and with Pierce and Allen around him, Boston will be scary for the next year or two.

Al Jefferson will never be as good as Garnett is. Jefferson is ok right now, he will never win MVP. He will never lead the league in points and he will not be a 10 time all star. Plus let me know when he isn't hurt. This guy has really bad ankles. And it would be like trading those guys for Jagr and Shanahan. Although I wouldn't put Jefferson in a class the same as Phaneuf.

Are you thinking of when they lost five first round picks to sign Joe Smith to a ridiculous contract prior to FA starting?

Too bad those 3 can't play a full 48 minutes a night.
Boston's bench/depth is pretty questionable - the NBA might be a star driven league, but you have to have some sembelence of a supporting cast around these guys. Not much in the experience department left on Boston as far as their bench goes.

I don't follow basketball that much, but after reading the paragraph of players heading to Minnesota for Garnett I instantly thought of Herschel Walker.
