Tough win. They almost pulled it out.

Well he is the only Flames fan who wants a winning team and the fans who think winning is good to develop a winning team frustrate him so he needs to explain how enjoying this game where they won is really a detriment to winning.

There wasn't much to talk about for the game. It was very low event and maybe the most boring game of the year. Although I also blame the schedule because you had both teams playing on a back to back.

The difference was Huberdeau and Wolf, they were good. Weegar was also good. Defensively we had our best game, we only allowed a few high danger chances.

I do wonder though, results aside if playing a system like Huskas will bring fans to the new building if we keep him the next few years. You can argue he is good or bad but I don't think anyone can argue that his brand of hockey might be the most boring in the league.

Lol. Imagine this one year he plays like his old 100+point self for this one session, costing the Flames a high pick and then returning to 50 points. That truly would make him the worst contract in the league.

You can't actually think this is a real concern

I am sure that whenever the vets do get traded that it won't be for enough and that Conroy should have held out or that the team is really bad and boring. They will just switch to complaining about something else

The team has never had enough TALENT to win in the playoffs. That's not the fault of the culture. You might as well say a can of house paint is defective because you can't paint the whole house with that one can.

But talent without the culture also doesn't win in the playoffs, which is why the Oilers never won bugger-all in the McDavid era until they ran most of their homegrown players out of town and replaced them with veterans who learned to play sound hockey in other organizations.

I don't think many here are cheering for losses, and the players never try to lose.

But I think the majority here are more accepting of loses now, they are simply less invested in winning.

I know you're being facetious, but I wish he would play on a 100-point pace and make his contract valuable.

I missed the game but nice to see them with the win. Frost looked good in the highlights.

His contract is kind of irrelevant to the Flames given their current situation. It's not tradeable regardless of how he plays and it's not hurting them in the least as they aren't spending to the cap and don't have a current or impending Stanley Cup or even playoff window. It's likely the last few years of the contract that may sting but by the end of the decade there's going to be a lot of NHL teams holding the bag with bad contracts like this for late 30's players.

At least the ATL report is even more entertaining now, love reading the absolute terror and shock that the other teams fans cannot figure out how they lost to the Calgary "who are they again?" Flames.

The next 3 games all look “winnable”.
Next 5 look VERY winnable....

I don't think culture has anything to do with it. Their problem has been defense and goaltending for a while. If they had those they'd be winning. And despite being weak in both they've still come very close.

If the team is as bad as you think it is then you have nothing to worry about.

Oh I'm sure you would find it splendid. Not because of the Flames being in the playoffs or successful or any of that... but because you get off on seeing unhappiness befall people you disagree with.

If they made a big playoff push only to end up just short of the playoffs, I wouldn't exactly call that splendid. Would you?

This is true of every junior player ever... what's your point?
I don’t get off on others’ unhappiness…I get annoyed at the constant theme hammered at us that losing is good and high picks will save us. There is no real evidence that is true. Lots of teams get high picks and go nowhere worthwhile. Some…occasionally…like COL do…but it’s neither a slam-dunk nor an axiomatic truth. It’s a belief. I don’t believe it.

Would I be happy (happier?) with a high draft pick? Maybe. Depends what they do with him.
